Cell Phones, what offends us...

I was thinking about getting a cell phone and wanted to know are there

companies that offer special rates to people with disabilities?

Regarding the offends us thing that replied.

, I just asked a question not starting a heated debate. I'm the type of

person who likes diversity whether its in my job, what I do, the different

kinds of people I know, etc. I certainly don't mean just for someone to be

hired for something just because they have dwarfism or what have you. One has

to

have experience above all.

Secondly is unfortunately whether people care to want to realize it or not

there is discrimination out there in the working/business world at times. I

have faced it and so have some others sometimes it just hard to prove, but it's

certainly out there regardless of what rules supposedly companies are suppose

to obid by.

It took me quite sometime to find another job. Not that I don't have the

ability to do so, but with the economy the way it is and with some not all that

doubt your ability with how some view 'little people' it was damn hard.

Helen (who feels like she ought to write a book about her experiences which

maybe sometime I just might. I mean heck Romance writer Nora lives in

my area so why not. Although I may not want to be a romance writer at least

not yet. ;-))

Please don't take this the wrong way but i think it's funny when we and i did

say WE meaning me too, Don't want to be looked on as disabled but if we get a

discount we don't mind it.

lol irwin.. well said! I think it'd be stupid to give " us " discounts for a

cell phone! We're short! not incapable of using a friggin cell phone without

assistance.. we don't need discounts.. goodness!

It wasn't well said. What I think is stupid is when someone asks a question

and gets insulted by people who think they have an authority to do so.

I asked for people with disabilities since at times we need assistance with

things.

I didn't insult you. I never called you stupid or anything. I said it would

be stupid for us to get discounts. I see you have no trouble typing a reply to

me, so my guess is u can dial a phone and hold it ok, too.

Good luck on the cell phone hunt! :D

Ok, I know I ONLY use my cell phone for emergency and heaven knows I

can't change a tire so I searched out a company which had emergency

use only phones. These are set up for people like myself who use the

cell because of my " situation " , and this is a question that other

people who are on limited (SSI) ask. Valid question, which can be

interpreted in a negative or positive view. So we see here.....

I am a dwarf who is disable. Don't assume that I am not. Don't

assume that there are many dwarfs that don't fall into this category.

So, the " we " may truly be the people who shall I say.... fall in a

sub category within the dwarf ( " us " ) community.

On to the answer. I haven't checked in a while but Cellular One

(which I think is a different name) had a service for about $12 a

month, but does not include any free minutes or any time what so

ever. It is truly a " just in case " phone. I have used it and it

cost a whopping 50 plus a minute, but worth every cent.

Check around and identify what your needs for the phone are and see

if there are some viable options.

Also, for those folks who are hard of hearing and having problems on

the phone, the phone company was offering a service (public service)

of a free phone that fits your needs. They supplied me with a

Panasonic cordless with a set of head phones. This is a FYI and I

live in Massachusetts. Here is the information, but I don't know if

it is still valid.

Center for Customers with Disabilities

280 Locke Drive - Floor 4

Marlboro, MA 01752

The PH# 1-800-974-6006 Week days 8:30 til 5:00 pm

Asking for help on this list shouldn't be an invitation to take a

political stand. Like me, this person may truly be a dwarf AND

disable. Walk a mile in my shoes THEN make fun of me. Ok, I know

you all didn't mean to do that, but on this end it sure sounds like

it. Please take that into consideration.

Ok, off my soapbox...
