Guest guest
I agree with Irene, as I did read (on my own thru other links on it) that he did plead not guilty, and that he did refused the test which I also know is kinda like an admission in and by itself that he was under the influence or why refuse it, according to the law, that is, I think? Any lawyers on here? At the same I agree with Karolyn, as I am also thankful that NO one got killed, including himself:). And like Karolyn I am also a tee-totaler, but for me for spiritual and for family reasons because I've just seen firsthand the destruction of what drinking does to one's self, individually, and to one's family and friends. Guest guest
Yes Tony, none of us are perfect but I still stand by my statement that I am glad he has not killed anyone with his drunken driving! His arrest record are for ONLY the two times he got caught DUI! The mistakes all of us make or have made do not always involve the possibility of homicide! We are not privy to the inner workings of everyone's lives! We do not have to see someone drunk to admit they have been. We do not have to see someone cheat on or abuse their spouse to realize they have done it! (Before anyone miss-reads that I am not saying Matt abuses or cheats on anyone it was just an example that no one totally knows what goes on) Surely there are other LPS who can represent and serve as good role models for the LP youth! Barty, Dr Ain, and the list goes on and on... I surely do not want my 10 year old to look at Matt as a role model! To be fair what this DOES show is that no one represents ALL of the LP and that other than height there are as few similarities between the personalities, likes and dislikes of LP as there are among AS people. We are all unique and make good and bad choices. So since Matt chooses to drink and drive and got caught for the second time he needs to pay the piper like everyone else is required to. Karolyn Imperfect as the rest of us! Guest guest
Oh Karoline, I'm sorry but I have to totally disagree with you. Personally, Lin and I have watched every episode of the Two Series we have had the privilage of being shown over here in England and each time, we are just full of admiration for the down to earth, no nonsense, no sensationalistic way that Matt and his family are serving who whole of our community in inculcating to the general public, just how ordinary we are - and yes, that includes not being faltless. If turns out as well adjusted as members of Matt's family, then she will be a truly gifted woman. Especially if she follows in the down to earth footsteps of his long suffering wife, Amy:-) If we are not careful on this list, we are going to be judge and jury and come in with a sentence, even before the real crew. Why is it, we are so keen to demolish one of our own group, when in truth, we should be showing solidarity and strength AND, understanding AND forgiveness to each other. Isn't that what life and Christianity is all about? Fred ----- Original Message ----- From: Karolyn I surely do not want my 10 year old to look at Matt as a role model! Guest guest
But Karolyn, Nobody was killed. Okay. Actually what is does show is that he's human like the rest of us. The Courts will deal with this. I do know folks that have been pulled over for DUI that have been on certain Meds and that changed their readings. Also LP's do have a lower blood volume. My Nephew looks to Jeter, Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong as Role Models. If one of was in this situation I don't think it would undo all the good. I believe God forgives, I believe humans can too. A few years back there was a story out here about kids that threw a frozen Turkey from a Highway overpass onto cars below. ( http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=1225516 )One hit a windshield, smashed through, almost killing the driver. After months of reconstructive surgery and permanent facial paralysis the woman appeared at the teen's sentencing hearing, she asked the judge for leniency because she said she did not want to see another life destroyed because she felt the youth was truly sorry. I'm sure he's not the only person in USA to have gotten a DUI this year. And to suggest that he's an alcoholic and a bad role model is a bit over the top IMO. I haven't seen the LPBW shows (as they haven't made it here yet)but I have read Matt's book Standing Tall (whatever it's called). If turns out as hard working, determined and successful as Matt, I'll be very happy. I don't know Matt personally, but from reading comments from him and others on here, reading his books, and email exchange etc, I would like to say to those who made the nasty comments - judge not! Guest guest
I think Apryl meant this for the list...... Did anyone ever deem Matt Roloff " Saint Mathew? " No. Id say he is a human being and human beings make mistakes. Some of us are just better at admitting it than others. It becomes a whole different issue when DUI is a habitual thing. Who is to say how we would function in Matt's shoes with the kind of pressure with health of his own and his familys', especially with regards to his physical mobility, the leg surggery and shunt surgery hsi son had...and his business and running the farm. Fred, you were right. The Bible does say " let ye who is without sin cast the first stone " , as well as " Judge not.... " Id say Matt's plate is pretty full. I think he is a stand-up guy who will accept culpability for his poor judgement that led to a DUI. Apryl
Guest guest
I've read all the posts on Matt and his arrest. I have also read where this is the second time he's been arrested in 4 years, and how Matt was chosen to recieve an award that LPA put a stop to. Matt Roloff is HUMAN, he MAKES MISTAKES, just like the rest of us. To sit there and play judge, jury and executioner is ridiculous! I for one am going to wait and see how this plays out in the JUDICIAL SYSTEM, not the GROUP LIST! And why did LPA deny Matt an award that wasn't even theirs? It was from a MAGAZINE! If this is how LPA's membership is going to treat their members, especially one who has brought the ups and downs of being an LP into the mainstream media, I for one absolutely refuse to submit my sister and her daughter to this. I was going to pay their memberships for them, I won't now. Guest guest
And I would like to point out that Matt CHOSE to make himself well-known and should have know that this kind of activity would become public after his first arrest for DUI less than 4 years ago. I can't criticize anyone for making him the topic of gossip when he placed himself in the limelight. I do feel sorry for the unwarranted scrutiny this will bring down on the rest of his family, however. Guest guest
Hmmmmm, there is a huge hole in your 'arguement' and I'm dammed if I can see it clearly. Yes he accepted the fame and (now) the notoriety and he knew that his every move would, from there on in, be monitored, but then, so do we all. 'We' that is, who are dwarf. We know that if we put just the slightest foot wrong, if we do something even remotely unusual, hell if we do ANYTHING, then we have a huge chance of it appearing in the press. Yes, he has gained fame (and I sincerely hope, fortune) from his exploits in the media, BUT at the same time, he has given the small statured world, a HUGE amount of positive publicity. Ironically, in a way, his bravery and decision to cohort (?) with the media (something most of us abhore ever doing) has meant he pays one hell of a personal price. A price, as we have seen so graphically on here, which includes the alientation of his own kind towards him. But you seem to be using this fact as some sort of way of condoning everyone's criticism and 'assumed self rightious' attitude towards him. Doesn't that make those people who ARE so keen to throw the stones, even less of a person than Matt? Guest guest
Let's not " get a refusal to criticize " confused with " condoning. " And also, long before the cameras were shining on Matt, he did his fair share of throwing stones and " alienation of his own kind. " I agree, his show has done much good for the positive image of dwarfs in the public and in some measure, has redeemed him from some his previous mistreatment of fellow LPs. Guest guest
Ritchie, Brittney Spears, Lohan and Paris Hilton are spoiled little rich girls, brats who buy their way out of almost everything. None of them offer anything even close to what I want my daughters to model themselves after. Had they been members of average american society they would have been nailed to the wall and stuck in real jails without any luxuries like phones. Come on....Brittney driving with her baby in her lap, with coke in her pocket and Paris with her ties to the Hilton Hotel chains???? Nik Nolte is an odd one for sure...Al Gore Junior didn't choose to be scrutinized per se but did choose to behave outrageously and dangerously on his own....Just like the Bush girls. Neither of their fathers can be blamed for the behavior of their adult children. As adults they were all free to choose to be stupid. With regards to Matt Rolloff, we dont know the story behind the story and its really none of our business. If we choose to take it personally then we choose wrongly. Do we let the inappropriate albeit dangerous act of DUI negate all the good Matt has done for his fellow LPs? Or do we support him and encourage him to get beyond it and do better? Guest guest
Fred, If your point is that because he is a dwarf he is being scrutinized, then explain -Paris Hilton - Richie -Brittney Spears - Lohan -Nic Nolte and the list goes on...including Al Gore III who didn't chose to be scrutinized, but can thank his father for making that choice for him. (http://www.totaldui.com/celebrity_dui_spotlight.htm) Put yourself in front of the media and you can't delude yourself into believing that they are only available for a lovefest. When you pursue the media, the media responds in kind. He as a dwarf is no more in the spotlight, for good or bad, than the others of 'his kind'. > > Hmmmmm, there is a huge hole in your 'arguement' and I'm dammed if I can see it clearly. > > Yes he accepted the fame and (now) the notoriety and he knew that his every move would, from there on in, be monitored, but then, so do we all. Guest guest
Thanks Tony and yes! I would like to add that it's all speculation at this point and well I also saw it as some type of (if you will) publicity. I am curious to also know how one does a sobriety test on a diastrophic dwarf without their scooter or crutches? I believe with or without a drink or meds he would have a bit of trouble walking straight? I'm just asking??? I doubt he was even drunk or under any kind of narcotics. I want to see him as simply driving doing something other than just driving ( like I do SO many times) and swerving and then getting seen and pulled over. I am just saying.... we don't even know the circumstances. I choose to believe in innocence until proven guilty. I'm just thankful my friend is alive and well and not the other. Guest guest
I have to agree with you . Every day (almost) that I go out, members of the public approach my Husband and I asking if we watch " Little People, Big World " , then say how fantastic they think it is. I think that members of the public (if they find out about what Matt has done, will not judge ALL little people based on Matt Roloff, and if they do, they ignorant about little people already. I think most people will realise just how human he is. We don't know Matt's side of the story. And until we do I think it's best to just leave it. Matt does read all these posts and probably feels bad enough already. None of us are perfect.
