Are all of these candidates unopposed or are there others running?

deadline of April 1st.

I thought we had some very qualified & experienced candidates that

have thrown their hats into the ring already?

So what is being said is that this is the Roloff slate? Let's not

interpret this as the ONLY candidates.

Since I know for a fact that others who are also eager to serve have

announced their candidacy and I do not see them included. And

hopefully more coming, the due date for submission of nominations is

April 1st, correct?

Bradford and I (for example) have tossed our hats into the race

and neither of us has received a confirmation of acceptance or a

denial. Even the person supposedly charged with these elections has

ignored our submissions. While I understand there is an internal

despute of 2 conflicting bylaws, this does not sanction the actions.

No unbiased committee has been created to review the bylaws and

evidently Van Etten's interpretation (requested by President

Roloff) as parlamentarian has been dismissed. And let us note that

those who have already announced their candidacy will be the same who

will vote on whether we are allowed to run or not, do we not see the

conflict of interest? Or is that another lump under the perverbial

LPA rug?

While I may be new (since January of 2000 with a missing 6 month of

paid membership, which I rectified recently by becoming a lifetime

member) to LPA, Bradford has been around an entire lifetime. He

has participated at a regional and national level. He put aside his

life upon Lee Kitchens' passing and relocated to Texas to assist

with the upcoming Boston conference registration and to box up

LPA's materials. He spent a good percentage of the Boston conference

in the registration room assuring the input of data was handled

correctly. He then agreed to be hired as a contractor (well below

payscale for IT work) and came to work in Roloff's administration

with the IT initiatives. He dedicated countless hours to LPA's

Portland office fine tuning our new database that wasn't as easily

implimented as we would have hoped. He was the one who deserved and

recieved the compliments from Blackbaud upon the successful

implimentation of the system without their usual support and

assistance. He was the one who decided not to bill LPA for all of

the work hours he was supplying, underpaid for the type of

dedication, talent and professionalism he exhibits.

And folks, he is the one not being encouraged (or after Sunday

night's vote most likely not allowed) to run for Vice President of

Membership. The man who knows the membership database like the back

of his hand and who also knows it's members due to his long tenure as

an LPA member. This man became persona non grata in the Portland

office the moment he exercised his right to run. I was commanded by

President Roloff to see to his removal. Seems one can only step into

the Portland LPA office if one's views are totally inline with the

present administration. Is this democracy in action? I doubt it. Is

this how LPA's mission can or should be interpreted? Does this show

a clear pattern inline with what we have seen in the last 6 months?

On top of everything the person announced as gathering the

nominations is no longer available in the Portland office, thus what

has happened to nominations directed as requested in the recent

newsletter? Since our Development Director Leslye has had to tender

her resignation due to reasons I cannot quote here without her

permission, why has no follow up announcement been made to re-channel

nominations?

Let's wake up and smell the manure that surrounds that supposed rose

garden.

(As an aside, on our agenda for tomorrow night's LPA meeting is a

vote for my expulsion as an appointed executive board member.

Evidently when one disagrees with the present administration and asks

questions one is dismissed. I don't apologize for not being blind or

deaf and much less a dumb (insert degrading explicitives here)

female. If the vote goes as expected I can say it has been a pleasure

to meet so many of you while in this appointed position and I'm sure

there will be other times for me to serve.)

For the record, I have not yet officially declared my intentions of running for

a full

term as VP of Public Relations.

Dan Okenfuss

Interim Vice President of Public Relations
