Guest guest
Before you start attacking me for that statement! I am a LP and yes I have done things that have help both LPs in general and LPA specifically. I will not go into anything specifically that I have done, because again this list will go down the road of the small unimportant issues, in order to not address the larger important issues that need to be addressed. Besides as with all things 1/3 will agree, 1/3 will disagree, and 1/3 will really have no opinion on the matter. Now for what is so, funny - Every time anyone insults or perceives to insults us - you storm at the insulter. How dare you??? Yell at them, tell them what insensitive, immoral, jerks they are!! Then when you are done - you pat yourselves on the back and think boy " I told them " ! You believe that they are so impressed with what you had to say that they will never do it again! Boy are you wrong!! Think about it.... If the only contact you have with any person or group of people, is them screaming at you and basically saying your " one action/statement " insulted them and that you are a jerk for doing/saying what you did, how would you react. Then that same person or group of people then basically disappears from sight, your thoughts toward them would even be less complementary. Now here is the funny part, if the average LP took that same energy and left the shelter they have built for themselves none of that would really be necessary (Now I don't mean you, I mean the other guy). The general community does not know about us, because we cut ourselves off from the community. Yes, we may do what the rest of the community does live, work, play, but if you think about it, it is only on a very limited bases. Examples of Which I have observed I spoke to an LP who is a professional and is looking for a job, I asked the LP about their networking in the community and what boards the LP was on. The response was that besides LPA, family and church, there was no involvement in the community. In other words no involvement in the community, except the sheltered one they have built. This LP is highly intelligent and has many degrees, but has never on a daily bases demonstrated these attributes to the community. Another LP was recently asked to chair a committee of University and Social Service personal, again a professional and in their small sheltered community very well known. However, here she was asked to step out of that small sheltered community, into the larger community, and all they could think to do was turn and run. Finally, LPs on this list were asked to attend a large dinner where Danny Woodburn spoke about Inclusion, but only two LPs attended. In attendance at this dinner were the both the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Procter & Gamble. Now Procter & Gamble is one of the largest advertisers in the country, and are presently spending 1.5 billion dollars to develop Women and Minority businesses. A phone call by either one of these gentlemen, is all that would be needed to change the scope of " any " program. Yet, instead of us sitting down and building a relationship with them, when we has the opportunity - we are now screaming at them and telling them how they insulted us. By the way the reason Danny Woodburn was asked to speak, was that 5 different LPs in the Cincinnati stepped outside of their sheltered communities and developed a relationship with the organization who hosted the event to such a degree that they wanted to use their community platform to reinforce and endorse the issues that the general community needed to be aware of concerning LPs. The best way for us to not look funny to the rest of the world, is before you start yelling at the next person who you perceive insulted you, ask a simple question - Have I reached outside of my sheltered community to the general community? Now I am saying as an LP, but as a involved person who happens to be an LP.
