Guest guest
Hello all. I have a question for everyone. Im in C2W5 Im pleased with the results Ive seen thus far, but I really want to get into a bikini this summer. My friends all think this is a silly goal. That i look fantastic. But I spent so many years overweight, and even after I lost weight I was still " skinny fat " Now im 29, and I just want this last summer in my 20s to be in a bikini (and ok I wanna show up my ex who didnt think i would get into a bikini) SO, im thinking about a personal trainer. I talked to a local trainer that seems kewl. ITs 127$ for a " personal blueprint " he does your body composition, looks at your nutrition, and sets up a personalized workout for you. THen you can work out 1-1 for $57/session or come back monthly for updates/changes for $67 a session. Im thinking of the monthly checkup thing. Im a little scared tho. Ive gotten so use to my BFL workouts, that Im afraid of how he will change them. BUT i guess if it helps me reach my goals, its worth it. Has anyone else worked with a trainer and seen success? any stories you can share? or info that I should be considering before I make this investment? Guest guest
If your trainer is good and you have a good relationship, they are WONDERFUL. I can't afford mind anymore, but I worked with her for 8 months and it helped me so much. I was one of the people that did tons and tons and tons of cardio and didn't eat enough, so my metabolism was low, I was too skinny and didn't have a lot of muscle. She turned around my workouts and eating and really inspired me.I'm recovering from an eating disorder, so it was scary to eat more and do less cardio. She was so encouraging and pushed me really hard in the gym. They can help you reach points that you never thought you could. If you can afford it, go for it! cyndibarre@... wrote: Hello all. Guest guest
I have just started training with a personal trainer but I'm in a different spot workout wise... i have done three successful challenges in the past 4 yrs and have been lifting for almost ten years... i really needed something to freshen up my workouts and give me some new challenges. I also love the motivation of having someone there to push me. My big incentive for getting a trainer was to help me stay accountable with my nutrition. Unfortunately food has kept me from reaching some of my health goals so I thought the accountability would be helpful, and it has! I keep a food journal and he checks it twice a week during our workouts. And the workouts have been great, just the challenge that I've needed. Today is day 14 and I've lost 2% bodyfat so far. Although a trainer is expensive I've found it to be the right thing for me... but I also talked to about five different trainers at the gym and really grilled this guy.. to make sure he was a good fit for my goals. Hope this info helps, feel free to ask any other questions you might have. heather --------------------------------- Brings words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with . Guest guest
I would ask a trainer: - How long have you worked as a trainer? - What certifications do you have? - What is your training/fitness philosophy? - How do you feel about Body for Life? (Note, I practically had to peel my trainer down off the ceiling after asking that one.) LOL - What are your rates, payment, and cancellation policies? Also ask yourself things like: - How do they look? (do they walk the walk) - How comfortable am I with this person? - Do I find this person motivating? - Would I enjoy spending time with this person? - Does their philosophy mesh with mine? That's just some starter questions, I could probably think of more. Remember, you're the one interviewing/hiring THEM. :-) And on the " how do they look? " question, don't judge too harshly. They should all look like they workout, but that doesn't mean that somebody smaller or more " normal " looking doesn't know what they're talking about, or that somebody who's big and ripped to shreds isn't an eating disordered, steroid-using, kook who's addicted to fat burners. LOL Trust your instincts and look for somebody who displays common sense and a healthy attitude. Guest guest
Some of the main things include: 1) zigzagging your calories on workout/vs. nonworkout days, so you're metabolism is always guessing 2) changing your workout every time so that your body is always challenged, never gets used to it 3) the importance of the preworkout and postworkout meal. Must have protein and low glycemic starchy carb prior (chicken and yams) and within 45 mins following workout, must consume protein (shake) and a high glycemic food (Gatorade). Apparently the high glycemic rushes the protein to your muscles. 4) different qualities of protein. Some are more slow release, so good as a last meal or first meal of the day Hussman might have similar info. That's some of the tips I can think of off the top of my head. Guest guest
Important questions you might want to ask a trainer would be about the program they would recommend for you. Make sure they will do and " believe in " BFL is that is the program you want to stick with. Also you want to have good chemistry with your trainer... it's just very important that they understand your goals... --------------------------------- Bring photos to life! Guest guest
I have been wondering about Post and pre workout meals. Right now I am following the plan in the book (no eating before cardio or an hour after) Does anyone have any experience as to which is better? I am assuming that if fat burning is your main goal you should stick with no food. I am going to do some more research on this one. The types of protein is something I am going to check out too. very interesting Thanks! Re: Personal Trainer? Hello all. I have a question for everyone. Guest guest
Wondering how you worked the zigzag calorie thing. I'm thinking of starting that. I eat almost the same amount every day and I think maybe that's why my BMR went down. Also, which were the slow vs quick release proteins? Is cottage cheese good as a last meal? <mtomson@...> wrote: Some of the main things include: 1) zigzagging your calories on workout/vs. nonworkout days, so you're metabolism is always guessing 2) changing your workout every time so that your body is always challenged, never gets used to it 3) the importance of the preworkout and postworkout meal. Guest guest
If fat burning is your goal, I think that not eating before cardio is a good idea. I happen to not agree w/ not eating before weight training. What is everyone else's thoughts on this? Also, I have always been told it's good to get in carbs and protein within 45 min. of weight training. <rachel@...> wrote: I have been wondering about Post and pre workout meals. Guest guest
I do the same thing, no food before my workouts, and i wait an hour after to eat on my cardio days and do betagen with protein powder right after my weight sessions. i know i probably should eat pre weight training, but when i tried it , it made me feel a little ill when i was working out. Guest guest
has anyone on the list worked with a personal trainer before? Were they knowledgeable before hand about dwarfism? Did you coach them along the way as well? Was it through a gym? or a Medical Clinic? Just curious to know.. I've been in an aerobics class for awhile and its been a lot of fun, but there are just some things I cannot do (backwards pushups, kind of like the crab walk) and some things I just don't know if I should be doing. Thanks in advance for any advice you have... blessings, jeana
Guest guest
I have worked with many personal trainers that have been able to adapt the exercises and at the same time I am still able to receive the same benefit. If something hurts you, don't do it. There will be a certain amount of muscle pain that will come after you workout (if there is no tightness in the muscles after, then the trainer isn't working you hard enough)but your bones/joints shouldn't be creaking and popping a great deal afterwards, which means you may have done an exercise that isn't good for dwarfs. Within the last 2 years my sister has become a personal trainer, training some of the most successful people in our area, which goes to say she really knows her stuff. She has worked with me, she might ask me to try something but if she hears joints popping, she immediatly stops and will find something else to strengthen that area. She tells me it's a must to begin by loosening up with 20 minutes of cardio on the treadmill or elliptical (elleiptical is better on my joints though) and then we begin our exercises, this gets all the stiffness out of my body. So here's my advice: if you decide to hire a personal trainer make sure you are very verbal with him/her, but remember, muscle pain is okay, but joint pain is not okay. My sister has known me forever, so she has better insight into what I am capable of achieving without hurting my body. If you have any questions you would like me to ask her, I'd be happy to. Good luck! -Angel- > > has anyone on the list worked with a personal trainer before? Were > they knowledgeable before hand about dwarfism? Did you coach them > along the way as well?
