Russian LP Female Teen looking for Email Friends

Rob Tille here, and I have a friend who is SED, living in Kazan Russia. Her

name is Yelena Balankay, she is 16 yrs old, is in the 11th grade in school, she

is 4'3 " , lives with her mother and 13 yr old sister.

Right now she is dieing to chat, or email others with dwarfism who are

closer to her age. She so much would love to have contact with others, besides

an old man like me, as I feel I'm mostly giving fatherly advice, with shared

experiences. She has not had an actual contact with anyone in person, she claims

that in her city, she has never seen another dwarf. I have asked if she has ever

seen another dwarf on local television there in Russia, and she said never,

except for the Discovery Channel and Our Show. This led her to the " LPA Online " ,

and our listserve, which I responded to her email request, and surprise, no

others responded.

Yelena's English is rough, sometimes it is more of a challenge to figure out

what she writes, but it comes to you easily if you read over her letters once or

twice. She is a very sweet person, and she's wanting so badly to email others,

besides myself. I have set her up with a account, so she does have

Instant Messenger. If you wanted to have someone who will chat your leg off, she

can. She is a very interesting person, who is wanting to know that she is not

alone as someone with dwarfism.

interesting, and I have discussed every possible dwarf topic that I can think

of, but she's needing people who are of her age group, teens and young adults.

Sorry if I sound desperate, but this is a wonderful person who just wants to

have contact with the other world, that of LPA. She would love to know what

young women in the US, Canada, UK, and other Countries are going thru too, as

I've assured her that she is an average 16 yr old, so please write her and prove

to her that she is, please. Thanks.

Somehow I got in contact with her, She is very very nice and yea her english

is rough...but just another person to say that;)

Yelena might be interested in joining the listserv for dwarfs who are in

their teens or their early 20s. She should be able to make some LP friends

in her age-group there. It is an interactive forum for dwarf teens and

college-age dwarfs to talk about issues that concern them, make new

Thank you, Rob, for posting this to the listserve. I too have been e-mailing

with Yelena and have enjoyed doing so. However, I don't know how much I can

help her since I am average size and my 10 year old daughter, Amber, is

achondroplastic. Yelena has mentioned to me about having the lengthening

surgery

for her arms and legs. I don't know if anyone with SED has had it, or if anyone

can give her some additional information. I know she did say the dr that

they were looking at to do the surgery has only performed it once on a achon

dwarf. Also, she said that she was not the one that wanted to have the surgery,

it was her father. He wants her to be able to have a " normal " life. Maybe

there are some people out there that can help her in getting enough information

about the surgery. She is a very sweet girl, and yes, her english is rough but

you can make it out. I some other people will find the time to e-mail her.

She will truly appreciate it! She thinks she is all alone. Thanks again,
