Guest guest
I heard this the other day and thought it was amusing: Hello and welcome to the mental health hotline. If you are obsessive-compulsive, press 1 repeatedly. If you are co-dependent, ask someone to press 2 for you. If you have multiple personalities, press 3, 4, 5 and 6. If you are paranoid, we know who you are and what you want - stay on the line and we'll trace your call. If you're delusional, press 7 and your call will be transferred to the mothership. If you're schizophrenic, listen carefully and a small voice will tell you which number to press. If you're depressive, it doesn't matter which number you press because noone will answer you. If you're dyslexic, press 6969. If you have a nervous disorder, please fidget with the hash key until the beep - after the beep please wait for the beep. If you have a short-term memory loss, please try your call later. And if you have no self-esteem, please hang-up because all of our operators are too busy to busy to talk with you. Guest guest
Amusing? Making fun of those with problems. Would it be " amusing " if it were related to Dwarfism/LP issues. I have worked a mental health hotline for over 20 years and can tell you there is nothing " amusing " about the people who call in for help. Guest guest
Davey- I totally agree with Bruce--your " joke " about people with mental health problems was offensive and not amusing. We can't expect society to be accepting of our differences when we ridicule people with other disability and differences. Guest guest
NOT FUNNY and NOT AMUSING, In fact I find the joke extremely offensive. Mental health problems/ disabilities are no joke, and can be as limiting or more so than many physical disabilities. Hotlines save lives and give peace of mind to those who need it. We need to embrace differences in all.
Guest guest
I went back and read this post. I didn't love it when I first read it, but it is a joke, and may very well be extremely tasteless/insensitive. However aren't most jokes? Do we all avoid Rock, ? How about TV shows like South Park, the Simpsons, the Family guys WIll & Grace? Making fun of Mental illness is no different than making fun of dwarfism however, I think this thing has been beaten to death. voice-mail > I heard this the other day and thought it was amusing: > Hello and welcome to the mental health hotline. > If you are obsessive-compulsive, press 1 repeatedly. > If you are co-dependent, ask someone to press 2 for you. > If you have multiple personalities, press 3, 4, 5 and 6. > If you are paranoid, we know who you are and what you want - stay > on the line > and we'll trace your call. > If you're delusional, press 7 and your call will be transferred to > the > mothership. > If you're schizophrenic, listen carefully and a small voice will > tell you > which number to press. > If you're depressive, it doesn't matter which number you press > because noone > will answer you. > If you're dyslexic, press 6969. > If you have a nervous disorder, please fidget with the hash key > until the > beep - after the beep please wait for the beep. > If you have a short-term memory loss, please try your call later. > And if you have no self-esteem, please hang-up because all of our > operators > are too busy to busy to talk with you. > > >
