Marion Van Harken was my grandmother's sister and she was probably the most remarkable person I've ever met! She was the first Sunday school teacher my cousins and I ever had at Preakness Bible Church. I remember visiting her gift shop on Haledon Avenue and one day dreamed of owning my own store (she made it look so easy)!

She never wanted for a sense of humor. One Christmas we had blizzard roll through, and as always, the entire extended family was to visit us in North Haledon. My little sister called her to see if she could still come, and she replied, "Well it sounds like the snow could be over my head,"

When my friends would visit us and first meet her and stare, she would say, "See what happens when you start smoking as a child?". (Who knows how many cases of lung cancer she prevented?)

I have many piece of her "miniature" art on jewelry which I will always treasure. What beauty she could create from those little hands!

Her faith was unceasing, and her spiritual life had to be a key factor in her longevity -- she outlived all ten of her siblings.
