Guest guest
I, Eileen, would have said " well no I'm not a midget but I want to ask you lady, would you be offended if I came up to you just now and said are you a " n " word or Milato? I mean even if she asked her and didn't mean any harm..... why ask? what was the difference if your friend was a midget or not? would it effect the other lady one way or another? NO! So why ask the question? Not you, the lady asking the shorter gal that. See how well I worded that?!?! Its so dumb to me!!! I don't go up to ladies at random and ask " hey are you on your period or are you kinda stupid? " WHO CARES.... Thanks for the question.... there is MY answer! And yes I really would say that! You should know me by now! haha Sorry if nobody agrees with ME or your friend but thats what we will do what will you guys do??? I so want to hear!!! " Craig M. She was telling me a story about an event that took place earlier this week with her. She was at a dollar store and was approached by a black woman. This woman asked my friend if she was a " midget " ? My friend responded by saying she was a dwarf, and calling her a midget was offensive. She then went on by telling this woman the word midget is like calling her a " ni%%#r " . She said this to her directly. The woman wasn't upset by her remark, she actually understood. Could anyone have said what my friend said? My opinion was...many adults don't understand the difference between a dwarf and a midget, so it's ok to ask. If the word was used as a negative remark towards me, then I can understand why she said that. Then again, I couldn't say " ni%%#r " regardless if I was pissed or not...it's just me. What do you all think? Peace. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
The thing I don't get is, what gave this woman the God Given Assumed Right, to approach your friend in the first place AND ask such a personal question? My favourite way of solving problems like this is to reverse it. Especially when it is directly related to something which has happened because of my size. i.e. Would your friend have gone up to this woman, out of the blue, and said " Excuse me, are you a Nigger? " Answer - NO! So, I repeat, what gives the average member of society the God Given Assumed Right, to approach ANY of us, in relation to our size? Ah, I feel better for that:-) Fred on his high horse need an opinion...... > Hey everyone! > > I need an opinion. Last night I was talking to a friend of mine. She is also a little person. Guest guest
Craig.. " The Times They are a Changin' " Do any Short-Stature People NEED to be refered to as, " Midgets? " (Derogatory or NOT!)..... ....My stand on this is NO! Every little bit does make a difference along the way....what Craig's friend said was excellent..... We should be educators.......in that someone came away knowing a little more about OUR human-condition. I'm noticing more and more children getting their parents attention while blurting out..... " Look at the 'Little Person! " .... This doesn't happen ALL the time but it NEVER happened 20 years ago.....it was always " Look at the 'Midget!!! " ********************************* Presently I'm working on an Animated Feature Film. After reading the script...the dreaded 'm...' word was used, and was definitely used as a Derogatory term. The movie takes place in the 1930's....the 'M....' and 'N...' words were far more prevalent then.... In one sequence the protagonist (a little 9 yr old, caucasian boy from the Bronx) meets up with an African-American boy and his friends and family.....no reference whatsoever to the " N.... " word. Yet, later in another entirely different sequence...the Antagonist (the Rich 'Evil' Guy!) shouts out to his cronies, " get that midget outta there! " (referring to the little protagonist) This didn't make me angry...its not worth it.... But i did ask, was this really necessary?......NO! I talked to my producer about this....Her answer was.....She will have the writer and the powers-that-be.....replace " midget, " ...immediately! Thank you **************************** Other instances..... Some AP adults would strike up a conversation with me figuring that size and affability go hand in hand..... (if I had a bad day....they were soon to find out how wrong they were! LOL) Some of these AP adults would take it upon themselves to become Resident experts in the field of " Short statured people " ...this always amused me. In a nutshell, their conclusion was: " Dwarfs are disproportionate...and Midgets are Proportionate, like miniature adults. " .... First response after a short pause...which made the AP realize..OH HECK!....this LP can THINK? (In showbiz.... " Timing is everything!) My answer was kept simple and straight (if I had a good day and felt a little generous with my time)...My reply was, The term " Little People " is a very widely accepted term......To many " Little People " the word midget is viewed as a derogatory and offensive slang-term, whether those people are porportionate or disproportionate.... We are all people of Short-stature....There shouldn't be a " Mason-Dixon " -line seperating Midgets from Dwarves. The people would walk away at least more aware how sensitive the word " midget " is to US....and a little more aware of OUR Condition. .....or they'd run because I was boring them to death.LOL Then it made me wonder Do " proportionate " LPs (non-genetic condition LPs) like being referred to as midgets any more than anyone else of short-stature? By the way....The word midget is listed in the " Library of Congress " We should all look it up.....Arm ourselves with knowledge. Didn't mean to drag on, Craig Kudos to your friend Cheers, --- " Craig M. Hennon " <ch1974us@...> wrote: > Hey everyone! > > I need an opinion. Last night I was talking to a > friend of mine.
