Dear Karolyn,

What would LPA do without you, and how blessed we are here in District 11

to have you and your family as such valuable members. For all you contribute

with your bodies, souls, your integrity, and not to forget your wonderful

sense of humor...... to our LPA community, we thank you. F & P

" I would appreciate a reply NOT from danny " the pimp " black " .

I must seem totally ignorant but with this and other kinds of name calling in

the dwarf community towards each other and one wonders why there is less than

100% respect and acceptance from outside the community?

Amazing absolutely amazing and so very sad!

I have been wondering the same thing for a while. It really is a double

standard -- LPA seems to have one set of guidelines as to how the outside

world should deal with them and another regarding how they deal with people

of difference within their own community. As always, just my

opinion. Gillian.

With all due respect to you Gillian, and to Karolyn, the dwarfism

community behaves exactly as society at large (no pun intended). Which is

proof that we're merely human beings.

Specifically, Karolyn erroneously attributed comments from the individual

() to the group (the dwarfism community). Worse yet, her comments

were made in a discrete forum (the Dwarfism list), which, by virtue of the

nature of discrete forums, can be expected to be quite a bit looser and

less politically correct than in broader public forums. This is

acceptable.

As an extreme minority, we are not without precedent or justification in

attempting to set guidelines as to how the outside world deals with us.

How one individual feels about another, within the minority community, is

not necessarily related to that. We cannot be expected to totally give up

our individuality for the group cause.

However, it *is* in each of our best interests to find the right balance

Hi ,

Me making an error?? Are you sure? I am always SOOO right (except politically

speaking) how could this be? <grin>

I am not backtracking when I say I meant no disrespect to anyone with my post.

Now like all the politicians say as they backtrack I give this qualifier for my

post.

I believe there is no difference in the world of dwarfism and in general society

where attitudes and behaviors are concerned. At least from what I have seen in

my 7 short years as a periphery participant in this, the world of my

granddaughter . I least of all expect anyone to be perfect.... at least

until I reach that goal myself which I seriously doubt I will reach (in fact I

would be your life on it!) in my lifetime! <wink>

I believe if one desires to be respected they need to give respect. If one

desires to have friends one must be a friend. If one desires to be loved they

need know how to love and be lovable. If one desires to be not criticized they

should not criticize others etc etc etc ad " barfsville " !

I believe " political Correctness " is just another way of being kind,

compassionate and loving. If one is desirous of being kind it is hard to be

politically in-correct in my way of thinking.

Now chastise me as one sees fit to do for my following comment.

I believe that we should first and foremost respect each other and I believe we

need follow the council of the good book and strive for tolerance of each

other's faults. We all have them. While I have heard it said by others since

when I was a little girl I first heard it said by my Grandma used to say " Look

for the good in others and that is all you will find, look for the bad in others

and that is also all you will find " I try to look for the good and that is

usually what I find. As I said I have yet to reach perfection so I am

incredulous at people's perceptions and comments from time to time.

I find in an un-named gentleman on the list (who has the same name as my oldest

son although we do not call my son Danny any longer....ooops did I give it

away?) is selfless and untiring in his efforts to help others. I have conversed

with him and love his sense of humor and his business savvy. I see the good in

him and if others see that as a fault in me then I will just have to comfort

myself that my Grandma Brinton who is looking down on me is pleased that I am

striving to put into practice what I learned at her knee.

If anyone is upset because I do not find it amazing that others are not more

kind to each other they will just have to stay amazed I guess! Oh and I also

believe we all could use more balance in our lives, don't you?

Shalom
