Guest guest
I had a laminctomy in October 1986 and at that time I was told of all the problems that could come of this operation. As my doctor explained to me the procedure, he said, he was scraping the calcium deposits off of the spinal column and that these deposits were putting presure on the nerves and causing much pain. No fusion was ever mentioned and none was done. The surgery went well and I was told this would probably last 4 or 5 years and it may need to be done again. Well I had the operation again, 17 years later, July 2003. Again no fusion was mentioned and today I have no pain and have and walk and/or run as if it was never needed in the first place. Another interesting note was that the same doctor who performed the surgery in 1986 did it again in 2003. As I understand laminctomies all that was done to me was the scrapping on the spinal colum and removing excess calcium. No cutting of any bones was necessary and no weakening of the spine is noticed by me. All I need to do is excerise and keep the muscles limber, this has bee the hard part for me, not a real problem I just don't like to excerise. Is there another type of laminctomy that I have not heard of? This is my story and if it helps anyone - I'm glad I could help , Springfield, OH
