Guest guest
I totally agree, Ive had so many of my friends say how they love watchin the show. And alot of them watch it on a faithfully every week on a regular basis, they hate to miss an episode. I hope more people get to see it. So they to can understand what we go through all the time, in day to day life. Notetoself010@... wrote: I am very surprised that people on this list aren't commenting more on how fantastic this show is. So many people have stopped me and told me about how they have more insight into how little people live and the struggles we go through due to the show's education on the public. Last nights episode made me cry. I was so moved by Matt's decision not to give up and participate in the zip line with his family despite his fear of heights. I loved how Zack turned to him and encouraged him to go through with it. This family is just so wonderful. Thank you Rolloff's for putting yourselves out there to educate others. Guest guest
It would really be cool if some one posted a review of the show each week for those of us who don't have that channell or no cable at all. Guest guest
I also really enjoy watching the show. I felt sorry for Amy when she and matt were trying to have a romantic dinner and she found her kids playing int he ocean.. right where they were not allowed to go! You never get a break form being a mom! My 18 month old daughter is a dwarf and I watch the show to educate myself as to what challenges my family has down the road. My husband has a hard time watching the show. He still denies has dwarfism eventhough we have had her diagnosed. I " m thankful for the show... I just wish I had the money Matt has to go on those awesome vacations! I loved it that he wasn't to build a zip line back on his farm.... I want to visit his farm one day.. when is older. littlelee75ca <littlelee75ca@...> wrote: I totally agree, Ive had so many of my friends say how they love watchin the show. Guest guest
Personally, I do not have cable and have not yet seen this show. However, many of my co-workers and friends have commented on this particular show. Many of them said it had shown a very realistic side of a person's life, as real, everyday people. This does sound awesome to me. My co-workers and I work for a non-profit disability organization. We honor what we call the " Independent Living Philosophy. " Also I've had many people I've met all over my state, because I travel for my job. Many people have stated that they love this show and want to know my view on this show. This show has impacted many people and I can say indirectly, it has helped my life as well. People are coming up to me more and they also seem more comfortable with my differences than before. People have stated they feel more comfortable with terminology and feel more educated as well. I can say that I feel this show has made a positive impact in many areas and it has made my " job " easier so I don't have to explain everything to people about how I do things or what the correct terminology is these days. I hope maybe some day I can see this series. I would like to put out a suggestion, that this show be put on DVD for profit and sold as a series like other shows have been sold according to series. Although normally I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by not having TV or cable…but this time I'm making an exception. a > > I am very surprised that people on this list aren't commenting more on how > fantastic this show is. > So many people have stopped me and told me about how they have more insight > into how little people live and the struggles we go through due to the show's > education on the public. > Last nights episode made me cry. What we go through all the time? Do you own a 40-acre pumpkin farm in Oregon? Have built an amusement park in your backyard for your kids? Do you fly to Hawaii all the time with the family, or around the world for business? This reply is not a knock on the Roloffs...Matt has done well and deserves all his " toys. " But it is a knock on TLC. While they have done a good job with this show (mostly due to Matt and Amy's influence, I'm sure) by being sensitive about certain issues related to dwarfism and generally portraying LPs in a positive light, it is NOT your average, day-in-the-life dwarf story. It is reality TV, which, ironically, means it is unreal. The Roloff's are an affluent family living in an area of Oregon populated by upper class denizens. TLC is not showing the average dwarf from a working class family, a member of a minority, a single mother holding down two jobs to support her kids. It doesn't show the college kids struggling for education and acceptance. And it doesn't show the numerous, numerous dwarfs with chronic medical issues. I'm not saying we're a sad lot, but demographically speaking, we're probably just below the national average in terms of socio-economic status. So while I praise the show for it's positive portrayal of the ROLOFFS, I'm not going to get all mooney about it realistically representing dwarfs in general. As an officer in LPA, I am responsible for administering scholarships and medical grants for LPs in dire need. These people are largely invisible to TLC. Besides, as an LP and a friend of Roloff family for over 30 years, I've seen it all before, so the show is really not providing me any new, exciting material. Bill (And before anyone accuses me of doing so, I am not a " Matt-basher " nor am I jealous. I am perfectly content with were my life is going, and proud of what I have done.) Guest guest
Me too, and , I enjoy it and I feel it has had a positive effect amongst the ap population that may or may not have had that much contact with an lp before:). Tho, I do see and feel Bill's sentiment, again, no knock on the Roloff's, all the best and with everything they have too:), but it is not yer typical lp family. Perhaps, typical in its emotions as emotions are universal, and with its acceptance issues, dating, this and that relating to being short, but not the economic issues. But, maybe then too, seeing an lp family of their monetary level, so to speak, may help show the average Joe Schmoe ap who doesn't know anything about us think that hey, we can achieve the 'American Dream', so to speak, too! But then I can see an ignorant ap somewhere sitting in his torn and battered Lazy-Boy armchair sluggin down a few 'brewskis' in his undersized hole ridden coffee stained tee shirt with his belly protruding out, and in his old faded gray work pants that has cigarette burns and coffee stains on them too, haha, saying to himself while seeing the show, " Only in America, can a dwarf get that far! D*m America, and its bleeding heart left centered everyone is equal PC cr*p! I'm a hard working laid off All-American Chevy man and they got more than I got! (haha) I wish it was the old days, back when the only time you saw a m*dget, oh yeah, I forgot I'm not a Larry King supporter too, (haha) that Commie b*stard (lol), but I meant, a dwarf, in the circus! Where they all belong! Hun, git me another beer and quick, cuz I'm on a roll now!! " LOL Tongue in cheek, grady:P --- pickett <proudmommao2@...> wrote: > I also really enjoy watching the show. Guest guest
The episode where they got to go to Hawaii also doesn't portray their everyday life. The show has also had episodes dealing with experiences on grocery stores, driving, not being able to play contact sports, etc. I think it HAS given an insight to many things that people didn't know, or probably wondered about at one time or another..
