Guest guest
I've been in construction (plumbing/fire protection) for many years and will be undergoing a THR in the near future. I'm still too young for retirement (53) and was wondering if there are any who have had this operation and have returned to this style of work. Thanks Randy

I don't know all the details, but what I gather is that if you fit a certain profile, you can apply for certain types of jobs. Many of them are supposedly negotiated to be work-at-home arrangements. If you don't have the knowledge, they assist with training. I'm not advocating since I don't know too much about them personally, although I did do some emailing with a guy from there once. Maybe it could be at least a partial answer to your dilemma? Hope this helps! Has anyone used this site or know anyone who has? Anyone know how reliable and/or legit it is? Guest guest
This is one of the things that is variable depending on general health, the nature of the job, and one's specific response to and recovery from surgery. That said, this a very major surgery and the rehab can be time- consuming and difficult. From my experience, what I've read here, experiences of family and friends, and my general reading i don't think it's realistic to expect to return to work full time in 2-3 weeks. You will probably have PT appointments and be working hard on rehab for at least a month and likely longer. So if you do return so quickly you will need flexibility about time. I was working at home at a month, and indeed a little before that, but was very tired and not very clear headed. I was also still working very hard on my rehab. I had 10 days of PT at home and then a few weeks of outpatient PT twice a week. My work was time critical so I had to do this but wouldn't have otherwise. I had actually planned my surgery a month earlier for this reason but had to delay it. If you have a job where you can start by working part time and/or at home that would help you to both rehab and work and to assess your re- entry and make changes if needed. Also your doc and PT may be able to suggest some modifications that would help yor return. I hope you will talk to your doc and get an assessment about this. Then you can set an appropriate expectation with your management. There are legal protections for being out of work due to medical needs so your job should not be at risk. OTH it is very unlikely you'll be out for the long period mentioned for complete healing.
