Hi ,

I think you are braver then me How old are you ? Are you still taking pain pills ? Because when I had My Hip and Knee replacement I stayed on the pain pills as long as I could I heard that the pain pills helps you, for the things you do around the house and your excises and take one at a time :-)

I just need someone to talk to to pass the time until I'm able to drive and this thing stops hurting a bit more. I had one TKR on Nov 2 and the 2nd one on Feb 2, so that's like 2 1/2 weeks ago. I just got my staples out and took my first whole shower, it was great! I also had a spinal fusion in April of last year, so you see I need to find something to do in this in between phase, I guess you would say, to help me not get depressed cause I wanna do so much, but I can't yet. I've been down for so long, I'm just really sick of dealing with it and it's not getting better fast enough to make me happy. Going to physical therapy is the highlight of my week. Thanks,

At the rate of posts on this site in the last 24 hours, you will be

talking to yourself. I wondered if the site was out of business.

Hi Susie, I'm 45 and they didn't want to do them until I was 50 but they got to be so bad that was really the only thing left. I've had arthroscopic surgeries, and all kinds of injection. I'm staying on the pain pill for as long as I need them, and not quitting a minute before I need to. I was off of them for my first knee, so now I just get to start all over. The pills are getting further a part though. Did you have your hip and knee at the same time?

Val

Hi Val, I go to physical therapy, my husband takes me, but I'm not sure I could get my leg in and out of a vehicle by myself yet. It's very cold here right now, so I'm really waiting for spring.

, Did you ask your PT to show you how you can do that by yourself? One thing I did like about going to PT is that I could ask them about various things, one of them was getting in and out of a car, another was them working longer with me going up and down the steps. It seemed that the only way I could learn things was to ask about them, otherwise not much really was done with my first PT, she just believed in bending my leg back ...with me laying on my stomach. That was rough!

You know that pt where they bend your leg back and I guess you're supposed to yell Uncle! or something, that one is bad! They showed me the steps, but not really the car. When I had my right one done I worked it out myself, but this left one has me all turned around. I'll ask about the car thing tomorrow. Thanks,

---Hi , sorry about your being down so long, BORING! I'm 6

weeks out from my 1st tkr so its still easy to remember how hard it was

at 2.5 weeks and also easy to remember how awesome that first shower

was. It's cold where I am too, we've had our driveway in ice for going

on the third day now. Our steps and area to the car are iced also so

needless to say I've stayed inside. My husband is sick, pulmonary

hypertension, O2 all the time so he can't go out and salt and shovel so

we just stalked up on everything Fri when we heard it was coming and

haven't attempted to go out. Our back door goes into a fenced area so

I just open it and the dogs run out to do their job without any walking

by us necessary. Back to tkr, I'm sure hoping work is back in my near

future, like the next couple of weeks. Luckily my job will allow me to

go back on light duty, sitting mostly. Which at the rate this stupid

knee is going that will be nec for some time. It will not extend yet

and causes me to limp pretty bad, which in turn has my hip and lower

back hurting! I'll be so glad when this is behind me, heck then I can

get the other knee done, YUCK! Anyway we just have to hang in there

and go with it. Take care and good walking soon, Debbie

Hi to , Susie, Sassy Lou, Albeit & everyone whose

name I've forgotten!

I had a right TKR Nov. 15, have posted here now & then,

especially when I was having fever & chills just before

Christmas. That turned out to be a normal part of recovery from

major surgery, according to both my doctors. I haven't had it

again, but I spent the big holiday wrapped up while my " kids "

fixed the meals.

About getting out: I had 2 weeks home PT after leaving the

hospital, with a charming man who kept telling me " Stand tall,

Ma'am! " whenever I was hunched over the walker. The 2nd week,

when I told him we usually went out for lunch Fridays, he said

" It would probably be good for your spirits, go have lunch with

your friends & I'll make it up Monday " . It WAS good!

I quit the pain meds gradually, after finishing my outpatient

PT, because otherwise my well-meaning SO would have insisted on

driving me everywhere! It's been good to be able to drive alone

again, for sure.

So do not despair, you who are still in the early recovery

stages--better days ahead, even with ups & downs in them. We

are planning to visit our son's family in England late in May, &

we're all going to Barcelona for a few days while we're over

there. I may not walk a mile at a time, but I certainly intend

to walk, sit & walk again!

Cheers,

Barb in MI

, I am in the same boat. I was at my Dr on

Wed and he said I have soft bones and I am healing too

slow and I have to remain on my walker, walking toe

only for a MONTH more. Major set back and I have been

feeling in a slump since then. I have another one to

go, probably around May or so. I have my Mom here to

be with but other than making meals and getting me

water, she is on oxygen 24/7 and sleeps alot. So, in

the dumps I am and can relate to how you are feeling.

I hope this feeling passes soon for you and I. We

will feel so much better when the healing is over. My

thoughts are with you soul sister!

Oh , that is a bummer. I know it sounds like a long time but when it's over it will be so nice won't it. I'm sorry you're having problems. I can put my foot all of the way down but I can't bend it very far like an L shape? I think I'm behind on that and I'm going to have to hurt a whole lot before it gets better. And you will get in the slumps, and I call them plateaus, where it seems like nothing is getting better but it really slowly is, just tooo slowly. I get depressed and then I just lay around and don't do anything. My husband just went back to work today so I had to make it on my own. I don't know how I'm going to do it by myself.

Hey are you my soul sister in Arizona? I had forgotten your name. Write me back more, as you know it's sorta boring being stuck here for so long.

I never heard of this for a knee replacements . Well you have a nice day and take one day at a time

Susie

Hi Susie, yeah all of the Drs. didn't want to touch me because they said that I was too young and my joint would wear out before the rest of me. The Arthroscopic surgeries where right at the start and they make 3 little incisions in your knee and go in and look around and clean anything out or smooth anything out that they can. I had 2 of those. The first one helped for about 10 years and the 2nd was a waste of time and pain.

Hi Val, yeah I yell Uncle and cry, whatever it takes to get her to ease up a bit. I have to go tomorrow and I'm nervous because I don't want to do that laying on your stomach thing again. I take my pain pills right before I go to therapy. I'm hoping they aren't going to cut off my supply just yet. I do notice that I'm able to go longer periods without them though. But then I'll wake in the middle of the night in so much pain I think I can't stand it. Weird, but walking helps that more than anything.

Would you like some sites for card making? I totally understand what both of you are going through. I have been housebound since November and feel it is going to take me through 2006 to take care of all the issues I am dealing with! If you would like the website on card making (all different kinds) let me know and I will send the link! Val

Hi , I do agree with you...walking would help....but, I also have a problem where it feels that I have a golf ball on the bottom of my foot so then I walk differently to try to make it so I can walk in less pain. Which has caused more problems. Eventually everything will work out. I just messaged you in aol....my signature is cuzluv4us on aol instant messenger, because my daughter had cuzluv4u so I just added an s! So, if you got a message it was from me!

My experience was different. When I was in hospital

rehab after THR we were strongly advised to take our

Yep! Thats me in Arizona! Hi Sis! LOL Yea, sucks to

be so lazy and with a new knee which I thought I was

making such great strides and all. I am stretching

and icing everyday and I am at 95 degrees, which I

thought was pretty good! My home therapist just left

and after this week I will be going to outpatient

therapy. I am pleased so far as my progress and cant

wait to get the second one done, I think that wont be

until Mayish. Where do you live? I am thankful I am

in Arizona as the weather is beautiful now. I moved

here from Chicago because of weather and ice and my

fear of falling. Well, I am going to go rest. Lets

keep in contact and let me know how you are doing.

Keep on stretching and be safe!
