Guest guest
Sunday, April 20 is Easter day.... and that is the day the kids find their Easter Baskets. When I was younger, the Easter Bunny came while we were sleeping and left the basket outside our bedroom doors. Now,as a Mother.....I have changed things....LOL. We like to go to Sunrise Service and the LAST thing I need is for the kids to be getting full of candy and playing with new toys. So, While the kids are buckling into the car,,, I set the baskets outside their door for when we get home from church. The Easter Bunny hides the eggs later at my Mom's house when we have our get together and dinner.
Guest guest
Easter is always a Sunday, the friday before is Good Friday, with the belief that Christ was crucified, dead and buried, on the third day, arose from the dead. The third day is Easter Sunday, and a day of celebration. Easter Sunday is when the eggs are hidden, and then discovered, and Easter baskets are given, depending on family tradition the baskets may have just candy, or other gifts as well. Our baskets always include some small gifts for the girls, and we don't hide real eggs, but rather the plastic eggs that you can put treats in. We used to put candy in all, now we put coins in some, candy in some. Then it is off to church, dressed in pretty new spring dresses. In my family, the traditional big Easter family meal has been replaced with Easter brunch at one of the many local restaurants that really put on a huge feast for this day. Easter egg hunts are held throughout early spring, almost always before Easter, but usually just within the couple of weeks before Easter. Egg hunts tend to get turned into a type of party, with games and treats, and sometimes a visit from the Easter Bunny. At least this is how it is done in our area of the country. I am sure there are differences all over. Guest guest
In this neck of the woods, the Easter Bunny comes on Sunday morning - baskets go out empty Saturday evening then are filled up in the Am. We have also been hidding eggs on Easter Day and leaving some money in the eggs. we usually dye eggs a few days before just for fun. Lately the Easter bunny has been bringing cds and videos- since amanda cant have too much candy. ~ Mom to 12 DS and Diabetes Type 1 and 8 NY
Guest guest
There is a great story about a young boy with DS and what he learned in Sunday School ... Easter Eggs were part of the story. Guest guest
More Easter trivia: Lent officially ends with the singing of the Gloria (which is not sung during Lent) at the Thursday evening mass. before Easter. Thursday evening mass, with washing of the feet, begins the Easter Triduum, which continues through Easter Sunday evening. The Easter Season begins with a mass which always begins after dark on Holy Saturday evening called the Easter Vigil, and it ends 50 days later on Pentecost Sunday. The 40 days of Lent does not include Sundays or the days of the Triduum. Bev, who besides being mom to Danny, 11, DS, is also church librarian and occasional organist Oh, yeah, the Easter bunny goes to work after we get home from church Saturday night & the kids go to bed. Guest guest
All four of my children get Easter baskets - I don't care if two are adults - they are still my babies and will get one. I also get Tim some Reese Peanut Butter Eggs (the larger size). Tim hides eggs and the kids find them (well now just and Snoop). I prefer Saturday evening mass (Easter Vigil) to Sunday morning mass. It's much, much longer and more solemn and spiritual. It also the time that the church welcomes new members through baptism, confirmation and first communion. To me, Easter Services has always been a fashion show - and that is not what I want out of church. That is my opinion We eat dinner out - usually a nice buffet that has prime rib, ham, turkey and lots of side dishes. , who thinks maybe I did not give a basket last year and now feeling pretty guilty! Guest guest
In my local United Methodist Church, we have Maundy Thursday services on Thursday night, recognizing the Last Supper, agony in the Garden, and the arrest of Jesus. We have communion, and our minister performs the washing of the feet ceremony. On Good Friday, we have a Tennebrae service, recognizing the last hours of Jesus. This is also called the " darkening " and is one of the most poignant, spiritual, and just plain gut wrenching services we have. When the church is placed in total darkness and silence at the end of the service, the emotion is absolutely undescribable. Easter Sunday of course is the day of celebration, and that is when the Hallelujah Chorus is sung in our church. We do the Easter Baskets before church, but no candy allowed until after church. Now that the girls are a little older, they really don't mind waiting. I have always loved Easter. Along with the meaning in my faith, I think the sense of a new start, along with the flowers, etc., has always captured my heart. I have a friend who does not do New Year's resolutions in January, she does her resolutions at Easter. And she rarely breaks those resolutions. She told me she has always associated Easter with new beginnings. Guest guest
Hi, We have pretty similiar services here. On Good Friday, we have drumming at noon interspersed with scripture. It's very cool. In the evening, we process with the cross and instruments around the neighborhood then have a passion play which is usually very heavy and lamentful. Easter morning, we do a small stations of the cross, everything still Lent-like and dark, then the children process with the lillies and the church is transformed into spring, etc. I love to get Godiva in my basket!!!! ~ Mom to 12 DS and Diabetes Type 1 and 8 NY

Guest guest
Easter here for our family is this: My dh, myself, and Jasmine get up on Easter Sunday morning and find that the Easter Bunny has come during the night and left his goodies for us all. Then we get all dressed and go to church. I made a dress for Jasmine this year. It's been a few years since I have sown her anything so I wanted to do it this year. By the time you have to sew a size 14 it's not really cheaper than buying it ready made, but it's the thought that counts! Our choir(of which I am a member) sings our Easter musical in place of the morning preaching service. Then it's off to my sisters house for the holiday gathering. All her husbands family comes over and brings pot luck. We always have the same things to eat, except when I decide I'm tired of bringing the same old thing and bring something different. Then everyone fusses cause I didn't bring sweet potato casserole. I guess this year I'll have to bring that and something strange! These are some real dyed in the wool southern folks I'm talking about! You know the kind-if you ain't got beans on the table it ain't dinner! If the weather permits we will have an egg hunt while there. Then we all just sit around and talk and visit. Out church has an egg hunt for the community on the sat. before Easter weekend. We have the hunts for different age groups, puppet ministry so they get the gospel, and free hotdog, chips, and drink and dessert. It goes well. Everyone in the church donates the eggs and candy. We all get together the Thurs. night before and fill all the eggs with candy and a scripture verse. It's fun!!! That's our Easter. It's fun and my sister has finally realized that I am not going to miss church on Easter Sunday morning to go to her house earlier. So life goes pretty well. Toni-mom to Jasmine-11-and still afraid of the Easter Bunny!
