Guest guest
Hi Eleanor - I don't think my story will cheer you up, but it is quite similar. I have bi-lateral AVN of the hips, had a RTHR in June 2005 and am still not out of pain. My OS says there is nothing wrong, and the leg is not longer, but like you I have also had knee problems since the surgery. I think they twist you about so much during the op that it must have got sprained. Anyway, now my hip and whole leg hurts, plus my back and foot (which also now boasts a nice bunion), and apparently " there is nothing wrong " . I have been trying to figure out what the problem could be, as there doesn't seem to be any sign of infection or loosening. Like you I am looking for answers almost 2 years down the line. And I have to have the second hip done one of these days! Best wishes, Sharon > > Hello everyone, it has been about 6 months since I posted so I know > most of you may not remember me. Guest guest
Hi Eleanor I am so sorry to hear of your problems, made worse by the awful Dr. I can give you the email addresses of a couple of Dr.s abroad who are wonderful and they will give a free email consultation of your x- rays. at least then you would have an idea of what has happened. Guest guest
Was wondering if you both are doing PT. I was having pain and the OS said that I was weak and sent me back to PT. It helped greatly. Now the LTHR is almost 10 and the RTHR revision almost 3. I have not been doing any formal PT and it is starting to stiffen up and the thigh is aching. I know if I do the PT it will get better. Just a thought! Sue > > > > Hello everyone, it has been about 6 months since I posted so I know > > most of you may not remember me. I am the lady truck driver who had > > a THR on the RH last May. Guest guest
I have the same problem, " nothing " is causing me a lot of grief. Because xrays and a scan seem to indicate no problems I asked the OS if it could be a soft tissue problem. He spat at me " What soft tissue? " I don't think the surgeon had ever heard of soft tissue. LOL. I had my surgery Aug 04. In the last 3 months there has been some improvement. I'm not sure if it is my not taking the ibrufen, not lying on that side at all, being pretty good about using my stick, the twice weekly exercise classes I run or the cortisone injection I had in November. Guest guest
Hi Margaret Did you have the hip aspirations in an attempt to find out the reason for the continued pain after your THR? That would be the next step for me, but I have heard from others that it is extremely painful. You said your two weren't too bad - can you tell me if you have to move the leg about at all during the procedure, and how long it lasts? Thanks for any help you can give. - Am glad your hip is recently less painful, I have heard the steroid jabs can help but I am nervous of steroids since they caused my AVN. Best wishes Sharon > > I have the same problem, " nothing " is causing me a lot of grief. > > Because xrays and a scan seem to indicate no problems I asked the OS if it > could be a soft tissue problem. Guest guest
Yes, the surgeon was trying to rule out the possibility of infection causing my continued pain. The one I had without a general took about 10 minutes. It was visually directed (ultrasound I think) and once they positioned me I needed to stay still. Guest guest
Eleanor, Sorry to hear of your pain. If you can get to a physical therapist they might be able to help. I am 6 months THR R-hip post op. The first couple of weeks I had knee pain. Between the physical therapy, exercises, and walking with my toes pointed slightly outward the pain went away. Also, it is very important to walk straight, shoulders back and hold your hip as straight and square as possible. It is tiring at first, especially if you limped alot before surgery or " lurched " as I did. But now I can walk straight with less effort and thought, but when my leg tires I need to think about keeping straight. Good Luck. -- In Joint Replacement , " Eleanor " <trkmom1@...> wrote: > > Hello everyone, it has been about 6 months since I posted so I know > most of you may not remember me.
