First Post - Knee replacement

Hello All:

I have been reading previous post and found good info. I am looking

for links, info and such about knee replacement. I am not in a rush.

I want to get as much info as I can.

Here is my story. I am a 59 year old man. I had polio in my right leg

when I was 5. As a result my right leg is atrophied and my left leg

has had to do all the work. Well after 54 years the old knee is worn

out. I can get around but it is painful. I don't wear a brace on my

right leg (had a full leg brace as a teenager).

Has anyone posted with the same or simular condition as mine? I would

like to talk with them. I know when you have your knee replaced they

get you out of bed ASAP usally 3-4 days after the operation. My

problem is that I will not be able to because the atrophied right leg

cannot provide the power to walk. So any thoughts about this would

help. I also think I need the heavy duty model because I know I will

be rougher on it. I have found five or so different manufacturers of

these things. What is the best brand and/or model?
