Guest guest
I will soon need a left knee replacement and have read several articles and loacted a doctor that uses the new technique where the incision is done from the side of the knee. This requires a smaller 6 " incision and uses new micro instruments that allows much faster recovery, and some patients are done on an outpatient basis. By going thru the side the muscle and tendon don't get cut. Has anyone here had this technique done? The doctor I found works out of UC in California, and the developers were 2 surgeons in Redding, Ca. Thanks, Bob Merriam, email:sc58@... Guest guest
Hi Dan: I'm a cyclist, too and I've had the CI going on three years now. I use the moisture protectors that can be ordered from Cochlear for $14 a pair and I put a piece of moleskin on the head side of the 3G to hold it away from the scalp to protect it from sweat. Before doing this I fried a 3G when sweat got in during tennis--since then no problem. For rain I carry a plastic baggie to stuff the 3G into. Actually my balance has gotten better after the operation because before Menieres Syndrome could incapacitate me and thus far, I'm dizzy free, except for a couple of duzzies the days immediately after the operation. Spin on, but only with the pedals. Hal
Guest guest
Dan, Welcome to the list and congratulations on your surgery date! <smile> I was implanted last month and started to feel like myself again by the 4th or 5th day after surgery. Some people report feeling well enough to return to work the day after surgery but in my case, it took my body somewhat longer to wean off anesthesia. (My surgery was scheduled from 8:30-11:30 a.m. I was awakened by a nurse in recovery around 2:45 p.m. and still felt tired.) Everyone's experience is with surgery and recovery is difficult, but the only symptoms I experienced were headache (I have a history of migraines but I think the tightness of my bandage contributed to this), mild neck pain and slight dizziness when I moved my head. However, all of these symptoms improved significantly the day after surgery. I will be counting down the days with you and wish you all the best for surgery!
