Guest guest
Hi ! It's the surgeon. I had a Total Left Hip Revision in April 2005 using Medicare with no supplemental, living in a ranch style (one level) three bedroom, on my own, with a 13 year old child. I was in the hospital for 4 days and then was transferred to a rehab for 12. It's the surgeon that makes the decisions. They must request the services. I interviewed at least five surgeons, PT , after care, and drugs were on my list of discussion questions. I went all the way to Dallas from Austin, Texas about 200 miles, to get all the services and attention I wanted. Medicare paid for almost all of it. A friend gave me a ride home in a Limo. I slept through most of the trip, it was a nice ride. At home I had PT three times a week. A visiting nurse, a visiting home health care worker to help me bath and change the sheets, etc., a Social Worker, an occupational therapist. Whew! I was glad when that was all over, I could rest. But I did not need for care! I received the attention that I thought was necessary as a single parent who had major surgery. Again Medicare took care of most all the costs. I actually think I got better service with Medicare than I did when I was using a PPO insurance for the 1993 replacement. Now that I volunteer for Meals on Wheels and More I realize I could have gotten Meals on Wheels for both my son and I for a couple of weeks at least, plus they have services that make minor repairs and do grocery shopping. There is so much available now a days. Enjoy!
