Guest guest
, I think we may have the same problem... very stiff knee and pain. I have researched this and it seems to be arthofibrosis. see this link http://www.kneeandshoulder.md/arthro_01.html Al Welch > > > > > >Hi , > My knee was, and still is, hotter than the rest of my leg. Guest guest
Bob Thanks for the encouragement! I guess I do have to be a bit more "patient"! But it's hard!
Guest guest
Make sure to ice your knee. On my first knee I was not told to ice until I went to PT. which was more than a month after the surgery. My knee stayed hot for months. On my other knee which was done on July 24 th. I was having ice put on it right away in the hospital and it not hot anymore. It took a lot less time with with the second one. I still do ice if my knee hurts and it helps a lot. Guest guest
Hi Folks, I missed the original 'Post' on this, so please forgive me for chiming in late...But assuming that the rest of your body is acting okay, and that there's not an underlying issue...Oh, and by the way, it sounds like you are doing fine for being on a few weeks Post-op.... I am 6 months post-op RTKR(50 year old male, healthy except for a knee I'd damaged in 1980),,, & I saw my OS last week for a 6 month check-up & he called me their 'Poster Child' for a good TKR result! I can't tell you you how good that made me feel, because I was beginning to wonder...Why was I wondering?....Well, because... 1. My knee still gets 'tight', especially when it's been innactive for a few hours...or after I've climbed 50 flights of stairs in 2 days because of my job...He did the XRays,,,everything looked fine, & he said " Tight is tight, nothing to worry about, just keep working your excercises " ...BTW, I am at a 2 degree Staightness & a 122 unnassisted " Bend " ,,,,132 with some help...But my OS said to stop the help! & work at strenghtening the muscles to keep my bend in the 122 range...It is possible to break/loosen the implant if you bend too far.....So I am going to stick with my bicycle riding excercises to keep the knee flexing 2. I also suspect that the 'heat' is from a good blood flow...Blood is warm & the body will send the warm blood to the part that needs it most for healing purposes. 3. Regarding " getting better " Faster " ....Well, Faster is a relative term......How long have you had a bad knee? How many years were you in pain and overusing some muscles while favoring the muscles in your bad leg?...It's going to take some time for all of your muscles to re- adjust....I think of it in terms of a diet..If it took me 10 years to put on an extra 20 pounds, then I can't hope to delete the 10 years and 20 pounds in 10 days...Or even 10 weeks....What it takes is a steady commitment to lose a pound or 2 a week... & That's how I think of my muscles,,,and the body has a lot of interconnected muscles,,some of which have been overused, & some of which have been neglected....Give them all a bit of time to get used to working together again...You'll have an ache here, an ache there,,,the ache will rotate, bounce around a little bit into places that you never expected while various muscles are 'woken up', and eventually settle down... 4. Golly, I guess I went on a writing tangent again...But , really, it sounds like you are doing great!!! You've gone from a 13 to a 6 after 6 weeks? Kewl...I suspect that by week 12 you'll be at least a 3....Keep it up!!! 5. And every time you feel a new pain, explore it a little bit, stretch it a little bit & ty to identify which muscle is actually hurting...The more we can learn about our bodies, then the more we'll know about how to help each part heal. Guest guest
Thanks Shirley, I am icing right now. The hospital gave me, well my insurance paid for, a really nice cryocast cuff and thermal jug. I was wondering how long I'll have to ice though. I guess as long as there is some pain and swelling I'll be icing. Guest guest
My OS said that is normal and there is healing going on. Guest guest
Hey , Since my TKR in February, & discovering this 'Group', I do tend to talk a lot...I could blame it on my Meds, but I've been off them for many months....So I guess I'll just have to admit that I'm getting in touch with my Feminine Side(Since I can never go through the pain of child birth, a TKR is as close I can come,,, & so I am embracing the pain with the hope that it will all be worth it)....:-) Bob > > > > Well said Bob...and they say women talk alot;) > > > 5.
