Guest guest
A spinal with sedation you might sleep but are rousable. A spinal with light anesthesia you are not rousable until the anes is turned off. I would rather just the sedation. But that is a decision that each person has to make for them self. He would go with what I wanted if I said so, but frankly, I have no particular reason for one over the other, so will go with his preference. He is so good looking, I'd like to see him work, but he is one of those who wears the "space suit" in the OR, so guess I wouldn't see much anyway. y
Guest guest
True. I would, and did go with my surgeons choice. He offers full sleep to people too frightened to be awake in the OR. I had no problem with being awake, so on with the show. Larry > I would rather just the sedation. Guest guest
I was unlucky enough to have had surgery on my hip two times in less than a month. The first time I had a Spinal with light sedation. I was awake part of the time but didn't really care. I felt fine & was not groggy at all when it was finished. The second surgery, they could not do a spinal because I had been taking asprin. I received a MH (malignant hyperthermia) friendly general. I was asleep the whole time & a little groggy when I woke up. I was not sick either time. I guess it is a toss up as to which one I preferred. I would probably go with whatever was recommended. Sharon
Guest guest
Sharon, I'm sorry to hear you needed to have two surgeries in so short a time. What happened after the first that caused the need for the second. Also I am curious, tell me about your need of an MH friendly anesthesia. Guest guest
Larry: I had a total right hip replacement on 4/20/04. On 5/14, I lost my balance and fell. I did not dislocate my hip but I did break my leg. When I fell the stem acted like a wedge & broke the bone. The doctor did emergency surgery. Because of where the break was, he removed the stem & put in a longer one. This surgery took twice as long as the first. My nephew has mh. He reacted to a general and almost died on the operating table. This is a genitic disease & does not skip a generation. That means one of his parents has mh. I (as well as everyone else in my family) go with the asumption that I have mh. Sharon (for those that did not read my first post mh is malignant hyperthermia) > Sharon, > I'm sorry to hear you needed to have two surgeries in so short a > time. Guest guest
Hey Maida, I went with the spinal for my right hip replacement two weeks ago and I have no regrets. They sedated me into slumberland but I can`t tell you what what was used. I can only tell you when I go back sometime in July for the left hip I will go with the spinal again because it worked so well for me!
