HI Ann, I Had my surgery on the 23rd of March of 2000.

Not sure if we ran across each other or not..I might

have run into you at one of the clinics right before

my surgery...I have lost 195 lbs... Down to goal and

Im' proud to say I had my body fat analysis done

yesterday at the gym . .They used a few different ways

to measure it and it came out to be 14.7..the woman

that did it didnt' now I had the surgery and she told

me I didnt' need to lose anything at all, I'm

considered lean..I was walking on clouds after that. I

asked her about the skin that I have .. ( OHHH how I

hate it)..but she said it wasn't enough that I needed

to be concerned about and she is going to start me on

a pretty strict weight training regimen... She told me

that the skin on my arms would tighten up because the

muscle would pull it tight, Makes sense..(-; ..Sorry

that was so long had to add that in there. All and all

I'm doing great, feeling wonderful, eating very good

and maintaining ...sometimes I will lose a few pounds

but they are finding there way back and i'm staying

about the same most of the time..Good luck and

congrats..Penny

hey guys, I am out 1-1/2 years and lost most of my weight in the first five

months. I have lost 118 so far and didn't even make 100 by my first year

out. I have found that FOR ME, I must diet and exercise in order to loose.

I know some folks do that and still don't loose, but I have tried this and

it works. I also took the advise of others and am eating more protein and

drinking more water.

Re: 2 year anniversary

Hi Ann,

I had surgery on 4//11/2000. I have lost 100 lbs, put back on 11.

I have been a little disappointed. Don't have money for a revision.

Ann,

Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary. I'm right behind you!

Think we all go through a little re-gain, I'm always up and down

about 5 lbs, am thrilled with the weight loss. At work 2 days ago

someone at work who I had never met, described me to a co-worker

as " tall and skinny " . Never heard the word " skinny " in conjunction

with my name before. It was a trip!

Hugs,

Your neighbor,

I thought I would post my 2 year anniversary statistics. I had

surgery on July 10, 2000, and weighed approximately 333 pounds. As

of today, I weigh approximately 180 pounds. I have no

complications. Things are going great. I have a consultation

scheduled with a plastic surgeon on Sept. 6. It is with Dr. Pownell

in Dallas. It is the same surgeon that Bern used, and I have heard

good things from others also. I need the works as far as PS is

concerned. I look like I am about 90 years old under my clothes.

Any of my littermates out there?

Good to hear form you, I haven't seen you post in a long time. glad

things are good for you. Let us know how you do with the Plastic surgery, I

have to start to think about it too. First thing I want done is my arms.

Then I do not know about the other things, I will wait and see.

I have been very down, Yesterday the 10 th was my 42nd wedding

anniversary, and without Vinnie here any more It is so awful. I miss him so

much. I thought it would be a litttle better by now, but I think it gets

worse as time goes by. It is 9 months already that he is gone. My

grandchild said the other day, grandma you said grandpa went to heaven but

boy he is taking so long to come home. It just broke my heart. The two

grandchildren are both just 3 years old and they still talk about him I know

they miss him too. Some time my daughter starts to cry and says she wishes

she could talk to daddy and ask his advise. It makes me cry because Vinnie

was the backbone of all our families, all his neices and nephews and his

sisters and brother would come to him, although he was the youner brother, he

was very special to all. We all valued his advise and opinion on things. He

always knew what was best. Well, let me stop, I could talk about my one and

only love forever, he was just so special and that is why there is such an

emptyness now.

Glad all is well with you.

Rosemary,

I would consider myself to be very fortunate, if I found someone to

share the type of love that you and Vinny had. Vinny must have been

a great man to deserve the love of a very special woman. He seemed

to be very nice, when I met both of you at the picnic. He will

always live on in the memories of you and your loved ones. May they

always be the fondest of memories.

Rosemary,

Vinnie was very lucky to have found someone like you who knew how to

appreciate him. I know he is greatly missed by your entire family. I

can promise you this, with time it will get easier, not maybe ever go

away, but better. Don't put a time frame on your grief, let it work

it's self out.

I have a dear friend who lost her husband took well over a year to say,

I'm better, I'm no longer depressed because I have lost this terrific

guy. It just takes time.

From the wonderful things you say about Vinnie and from comments I have

heard about him from others, I would bet that Vinnie would feel honored

that you and your children and other family members feel such emptiness.

But I would also bet that he would want each of you to make the best of

every day from here on out. He would feel proud to watch down from

heaven and see that each of you can stand tall and live to the fullest.

God Bless,

Hugs,

Rosemary,

My dad died two days after our birthdays in April 1996. My mom and dad

were married for 57 years, getting married when my mom was only 16 years old.

My mom STILL grieves for him...she tells me all the time that he was her

life and now her life is gone. Its very hard for her. I guess I'm writing

this just to tell you that I understand how deeply you loved Vinnie from

watching and understanding my own parent's relationship...my thoughts and

prayers are with you....Marie P/Florida

HIGH FIVES to you ! Way to go! Isn't it great to be able to cut

back like normal people do and see that you can drop a few pounds

when you need to! I truly believe it's because when you are MO, you

don't see the end in sight. When you are just a few pounds up, it's

so do-able! I gained this spring/summer when I went through losing

my baby brother. I went on that same emotional overeating roller

coaster that helped make me obese. It was like deja vu but, today, I

can do the things I need to do and pull the weight off. Thank God!

Congratulations!!

It is so great to hear you so happy and content. I am happy for you. I

am so nervous because I am going for the arms and breast lift on December 30.

It is a seven hour or more surgery, I hate to be under that long. I just

pray everything will go all right. Keep me in your prayers. Have a great

holiday, I will not make the Christmas Party. Keep in touch.

2 Year Anniversary

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am celebrating my 2 year

anniversary

tomorrow, July 31. I truly cannot believe it! I have enjoyed every

minute of

my life to the fullest since I had the MGB. The lowest weight I ever

reached

was 122 and was told by the CLOS staff that I was looking a little too

skinny.

Not to worry, I rebounded to about 124-127. I started out at 235 at 5'3 "

on

July 31, 2002. I worked out consistently and basically ate whatever I

wanted but

in smaller portions. I always eat my protein first and then follow with

veggies and carbs. Fortunately, the surgery turned me into a Gatorade

addict and not

a day goes by that I don't drink a ton of it. The best news of all is

that I

am currently 31 weeks pregnant with our second child, a girl. We

already have

a 4 yr. old boy that is going to be the best big brother! I have gained

approximately 32 lbs. and my doctors couldn't be more pleased. The baby

is healthy

and very active. She must be a dancer! She is due around Sept. 27. I

would

love to attend the picnic but do not know if we will be able to make it

or not. I

hope all of my littermates are doing well. What an awesome journey this

has

been! May each of you be as blessed as I have been! Sincerely, Alisha

Hi Lois ,

I'm sorry that your knee replacement didn't turn out like you wanted .

Did your dr tell you that their was some things you wouldn't be able to do ?

I was 57 and I had my right Hip replace and that was a pain because I have pain and thats bad scar tissues and no ROM because of the hip I can't squat and pick stuff off the floor and have to sit on a high toilet the rest of my life . I had my right knee replace its a lot better then my hip I can bend my knee but I know I can't do a lot of things when I was younger and if you want your knee to last a long time I wouldn't do too much until its stronger . I need my left knee replace but don't want anymore operations I still have to walk with a cane .Well you take care .

-------------- Original message -------------- From: "Lois Hansen" <444loishansen@...> On Feb 18 it will be two years since I had TKR (right knee). I am a very active (skiing, golf, hiking) 58 yo retired Int'l flight attendant. My main reason for having the surgery in the first place was to maintain that active lifestyle. I can honestly say that it was the worst mistake of my life. I have a personality that always believes that we learn from every action we take - but for the life of me I can't figure this one out.My doctor's mantra is "give it more time, you are still healing". I recently forced him to do a bone scan and again he stated that it was still healing. He also said that I should be happy to be able to do the things I can do -- in other words "live with it".Prior to having the TKR I was successful in maintaining a 25lb weight loss for over two years. After the TKR the weight has slowly come back. So add that frustration to the list. (I'm 5'2" - 134lbs)I'm sorry to be so negative but when I started questioning the slow healing and my problems I could not find a single individual that could relate, everyone else was successful in their experience. Hi Lois,

I'm about 18 months out from a Total hip revision. Again, like you I am

very disappointed with my outcome. You get the feeling that the surgeons

are only interested in the good news stories. If you aren't doing as

expected somehow it is your fault. Just give it time!!

You get to the stage where you wonder how much time do you put your life on

hold for.

My first hip was an amazing success. I don't know if the expectations for

this one were higher. I'm not sure that the fact that I didn't have the

debilitating pain before this one has affected my expectations and hence my

feeling of a poor outcome.

It's frustrating, and I often find myself angry about it. Not sure if I am

angry at myself for not doing better, or feeling the surgery has let me

down, or a combination of both.

I am having it all checked out again in February. The physio is writing a

report for the surgeon and he has suggested I need some good xrays to just

check what is going on.

Good luck with it, and keep us posted.
