Remember the clot in the leg they went to great lengths to prevent.....well, when one develops and gets loose, it becomes a travelling clot that goes to the lungs as a "pulmonary embolus". Its really unfortunate when a doctors office tells you to leave for the ER, without putting someone on the line to hear what's actually going on.....but I think you would still have been told to get this checked out at ER. Interesting enough, what they do with the "poped out or dislocated joint, is to pop it back in again. Had one MD attempt to just do this on a lady I had sitting in the parallel bars.....not a good idea. y
Guest guest
Hi Donna, I read your posts. I wish your mother would have had someone check her out instead of you writing frantically to a bunch of lay people for advice. If that was me, I would have had my mother in the ER right away to have it checked. You don't fool around with something like that. I had simple cartilage repair on my knee and I had a blood clot which could have been fatal if I didn't go to the doctor right away as soon as I felt pain in my calf. I take care of my mother now. She's 78. I'm always watching her to make sure she's ok. Please, in the future, call the doctor or whoever is on call if it's a weekend and ask their advice. If they say go to the ER then, please take her to the ER. You'd never forgive yourself if you relied on (I know it was ok this time but what if it wasn't?) I can't believe no one here told you to take to to the ER either!Donna Betz <n7lqk1@...> wrote: Thanks. I appreciate your help so much. Guest guest
There were a couple of reasons for not going to the ER. 1) Mom didn't want to go unless she was pretty sure something had happened. 2) I don't drive so we would have had to call someone to come get her. 3) The closest ER is over an hour away. 4) Her pain hadn't gotten any worse and she was still able to bear as much weight as she had before. 5) It was at least two hours later (when she started hyperventalating) that I found out that she had made the turn and was concerned. She had been playing the " What if " game with herself and had sent herself into a panic. She had even been up and walking during that time. I really wasn't concerned about the hip. I was concerned about her having a nervous breakdown. (The pain meds cause her to freak out even several days after she has stopped taking them.) That was where my franticness came from. I really didn't want her passing out on me and I needed to calm her down. Writing to this group was the ONE thing she would let me do. I had already suggested calling the emergency number or taking her to the ER and she absolutely wouldn't let me. She just needed someone to stop the " what ifs " and tell her again that she would be pretty likely to know if she had dislocated it (PT had told her that). As she said, she has been through too much to mess it up now. If there had been any signs that something had actually happened, we would have called the emergency-only number or taken her to the ER right away. None of us are going to risk her life or damaging that joint. Donna --- <celestialsecrets@...> wrote: > Hi Donna, > I read your posts.
