Guest guest
yes i have to admit this has happened to me since my TKR which was almost 3 weeks ago.... i didn't know if it was because of the pain meds or what.... i am heavy so it is good to drop a few pounds, but it is pretty strange as well cause i am usually always up for a dessert or whatever, now i eat about half as much of my meal as normal and then no dessert --- have no interest, so not sure of the reason... but in my case it sure won't hurt -- i am sure my knee will appreciate it and i have to have the other one done after the new year so a few less pounds will do me good! take care all, alice
Guest guest
Sure because it's the end of the line for the gravity and pain. It's a bigger problem than you might think as I'm underweight now and want to go into surgery in good condition. Alan, I didn't know that morphine slowed digestion, but that explains a lot! Hi , before my TKR's I had back surgery and he gave me Methadone for the pain. I needed to loose weight and I think that I lost at least 30 lbs. Now I'm on Percocet for some broken ribs and just keep gaining. __________ NOD32 1.1827 (20061023) Information __________This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system.http://www.eset.com__________ NOD32 1.1827 (20061023) Information __________This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system.http://www.eset.com __________ NOD32 1.1832 (20061025) Information __________This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system.http://www.eset.com__________ NOD32 1.1832 (20061025) Information __________This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system.http://www.eset.com
Guest guest
I have been through back surgery twice and I know it’s no fun. If my neck doesn’t get better soon I’m afraid it may lead to surgery #3! This just adds to the fact that each person is different in how we respond to medications. It would be great if there was one medication and dosage that worked for everyone but there’s not! That’s why it’s so important to do exactly as your DR. prescribes and communicate with him/her if something is not working correctly. There is no reason to be in agony all of the time nor should you be medicated into being useless.
Guest guest
Thanks, Sherry, I tried bananas but those didn't stay down for long. I found I could have homemade chicken broth with a few baby carrots for lunch as long as I take around 30 mins. to eat it. Dinner likes to make a return visit no matter what I eat. I go to my GI specialist tomorrow and find out what is going on. Down 40 pounds in the 5 weeks. I will get some Cream of Wheat. I am not fond of it, but I will try it. Guest guest
Robin, Are you sure something else isn't going on here? that is way way to much weight to lose. I heard of one case a few years ago where a guy had to have something cut that sends the message to his stomach is return food to his mouth. It worked. Is this just since your surgery or have you had it prior? Sherry Re: Lack of appetite Thanks, Sherry, I tried bananas but those didn't stay down for long. Guest guest
Hi Sherry, I was fine before surgery. I finally went to see my GI specialist and after scoping me put me on Reglan. It seems that it is connected to my diabetes. Since he injected both my shoulders with cordisone because of the pain, it caused me to have that extreme nausea and vomiting. I will be going in again in a few weeks for more surgery. I have huge bone spurs in my right shoulder and he will be removing those and then injecting both hips. Then next year he will be doing my left shoulder because I have a slight tear in the rotator cuff plus the bursa has already cut through the cushion it sits in. So he will repair that and remove those bone spurs as well. But since I am taking the Reglan I am no longer throwing every meal up. I did end up losing 42 pounds. My knee is doing great and the doctor told me I am where most people are at 12-14 weeks even though I am only on week 6. So I am happy, my family and birds are as well.
