Guest guest
I have now got the date that I am to be re-admitted to hospital to have an epidural(and yes it is the same as women have to give birth) and then go on the CPM machine. I am going in at 7am on Wednesday 14th March for 3 days, I will also see a pain management doctor while there. I just hope that having the epidural and going on the CPM machine for 24 hours helps and that I dont need to have another general anaesthetic the next day to have scar tissue removed and have the knee manipulated by the surgeon. Keep your fingers crossed for me that this works bacause at the moment my knee is more painful and it is harder to get around than before my LTKR surgery. Guest guest
Marilyn, We'll be praying and crossing our fingers that you have a good report for us when you get home. Even if it goes as far as a manipulation, at least you'll have relief -- after a few days of sore knees. It's wonderful you're seeing a pain management doc while you're there. Let's assume it's all uphill from here! Warm regards, Donna Marilyn e <brimari@...> wrote: I have now got the date that I am to be re-admitted to hospital to have an epidural(and yes it is the same as women have to give birth) and then go on the CPM machine. Guest guest
Marilyn I had the same shot when I had my LTKR. I had had general's before and my body did not like the side effects. It seem to me that recovering from that general as much trouble as the reason I had the operation. So, what I am saying is the epidural is far better than the general IMHO. Hope the get everything fixed and you get back to a full recovery because of it. Will pray for you. Guest guest
I had a phone call from the hospital this morning to tell me to make sure that I come in when I am admitted again on Wednesday, having eaten nothing since midnight the night before, as I am due into theatre about 8.30am....WHAT??????....I was told that I was just having an epidural and the CPM machine for the first 24 hrs and then POSSIBLY a general anaesthetic and manipulation if needed. I am now waiting for the surgeons secretary to call me to explain why the hopital seem to have different information to me!!! Guest guest
I have just spoken to my surgeons secretary and they have changed what they were going to do, as my Surgeon now flies off to the USA on Thursday which he had forgoptten about when I saw him last week. He doesnt want to have to leave it to someone else to possibly have to do the manipulation under anaesthetic on the Thursday, so is now going to do that on the Wednesday himself and see just how much bend the knee is capable of. I will be given an epidural and light general for this and then they will put me on the CPM machine to keep whatever bend they achieve, going from the Wednesday until the Friday. I had hoped to avoid the general anaesthetic, but at least this way they can see just what level of bend the new knee is capable of. I am going to be under the care of a consultant who specialises in pain management and rehabilitation on the Thursday and Friday, so hopefully I will get a possitive outcome to all this and be in less pain and more mobile. Guest guest
Thanks Barb for your good wishes, in fact thank you everyone who has replied to my messages wishing me good luck. Its great to have this site to contact people on and not feel so alone in having had a TKR. I will let you all know how things go, once I am home and able to get to the PC. Thanks again.
