Well, almost 4 weeks out, and definitely don't sleep well, but equally

definitely better than before. All the positions I prefer to sleep in make

my hip ache (wrong angles, I guess), and I hate sleeping on my back, which

is what is most comfortable for my hip. 2 diphenhydromine (the PM part of

Tylenol PM) and 2 Valerian (herb root) and 500 mg. magnesium will help for a

few hours. I prefer ibuprofen for pain, because it's a better

anti-inflammatory, and can't wait to go back on that as soon as I'm off the

blood thinners (2 more days!). There is a saying, " No one ever died from

lack of sleep. " I have to cling to that and take naps. I'm sure it will

get better with time.

Hi Sandy. I am a hippie, having had a LHR January 22. I still don't sleep

through the night. I

had just about trained myself to be up by 8 am when daylight saving time kicked

in last

night, and now I am back to getting up at 9 am or after. I waken several times

during the

night, and am wide awake for 1/2 hour or more. I have no suggestions except that

hopefully, time will take care of it.

I'm almost 9 weeks out and still sleeping on the couch with my leg on a pillow. A small part of the night I can sleep on my side (either side) with a pillow between my knees. I always have to get up at least once to use the bathroom. I'm not really in pain but I find the bed too flat and prefer the slope of the couch to sleep on. I have been pain meds for three or four weeks and only take regular Tylenol. My husband just wishes I would sleep in the bed again, I will try again this weekend.

Let me know if this email seems to cut-off mid sentence. Outlook Express has been doing this to me sometimes. If so I will repost in two parts. Did you have a knee, or hip replacement? And I have heard about the Magnesium thing. Would it be worth it for me to try? For the past week I have tried taking Zinc(50mg), L-Arginine(500mg), One-A-Day Men's Formula multi-vitamins, and also Libido-Max(L-Arginine:340mg, Maca powder root:260mg, Ashwagandha powder root:240mg, Epimedium leaf extract:240mg, Tribulus plant extract w/40% sapoins:240mg, Dimethylglycine or DMG:160mg, Yohimbe powder bark:140mg - side note on this one, it's the main ingredient that the pharmacists told me was proven to work out of all the others, L-Tyrosine:120mg, Choline or CDP:100mg, Bioperine Complex:10mg, Ginger extract root w/0.5% gingerol, Piper Longum extract fruit w/1.5% piperine, Bioperine black pepper extract w/95% Bioperine, NADH(Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide:1000mg. Other ingredients are Soybean Oil, Gelatin, Purified Water, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Beeswax, Lecithin, Caramel, St. 's Bread, Titanium Dioxide, Soybean. And supposedly no artificial coloring or preservatives. Don't ask me what any of this stuff is because I have no idea. But the whole pill is supposed to be a 2-part formula for a long lasting erection(which so far seems to be no problem, it actually lasts too long) and a part 2, which is a sustained passionate sex drive(this is the part I've been having problems with, not sure if from all the narcotics or what by my sex drive has been going downhill over the years. One question though, I do not know whether one of the mentioned supplements is doing it to me or just what it is, but I have always either been constipated or have diarreah. But the constipation seemed to double in being a problem overnight, so I heard mention of Magnesium Citrate and bought some, after taking 10-12 oz like it said I found myself almost living on the toilet all weekend. Felling like I was going to explode, but sitting there to the point for so long I would sometimes fall asleep with nothing coming out. Then only a couple of times a LOT coming out in almost liquid form. The bottle was only 10 oz so I did take the whole bottle(nasty tasting stuff). Do you think one or all of these above supplements made the constipation worse like that. I was just simply trying to bring back the lost sex drive.

Thanks,

Dale

Yippie!! Last night was the first time that I slept through the

night. I took a vicatin about 9 pm and that seemed to help.

Tonight I am going to take it earlier in the evening. Maybe it was

the time change, but I did not fall asleep until midnight.

I can get a straight leg, but not sleep that way.

Things are looking better.

Hi Sandy,

Don't be discouraged, but I'm 5-months out from TKR and I still don't

sleep through the night. I wake up at least twice from turning over,

bending or straightening a stiff leg. My Surgeon tells me it'll be

1.5 to 2 years before we don't know they're replacement knees.

Keep Smiling,

Alan B.

I am almost two and a half months out. Getting a full night sleep

will come it varies for everyone. For me it was about the middle of

last month or so. I still wakeup when I turn over from one side to

the other but quickly fall back to sleep. I had my left knee done. I

like to lay on my stomach but wake up in a different position. I

guess I am active sleeper.

I have a theroy(sp) if you are very active during the day you will get

a better night's sleep. This has to be balanced with the fact that

your body is still in the healing process so a lot of energy is still

being put into that. So if you over do the activity stuff you will be

even more tired. And you can (in an extreme case) be so tired you

can't sleep, if you know what I mean.

Oh I know what you mean Don. I just wish I could get this through to my wife what you mean. She will never understand unless she is experiencing what we are all experiencing. I have not had my surgery....yet.
