Guest guest
Hi, My father-in-law just had both knees replaced on Tuesday. His first day after surgery was pretty good, but ever since than the pain has been very bad. We thought he would be given a PCA. I think that is what it is called, a morphine pump that he uses to control his pain. Apparently, the doctor says they don't want to use that because it makes people goofey. I don't know what they are giving him for pain, but I just wondered what other people's experiences were when dealing with postoperative pain. Thank you for your help. kate
Guest guest
They had me loaded with oxicodone and percocet. I was very comfortable for the first time in many years. Someone must talk to the Dr about his pain level...they need to do more for him!!!! Walkin'on, P > Hi, > > My father-in-law just had both knees replaced on Tuesday. Guest guest
Thank you, , for the information. He has improved greatly since I posted. It turns out he had a terrible headache yesterday and that was accounting for most of his trouble. It sounds like you are doing great. I will tell my father-in-law about this site, so he can check it out once he gets out of the hospital. I'm sure he can receive a lot of encouragement from this site. Thanks again, kate > > Hi, > > > > My father-in-law just had both knees replaced on Tuesday. His > first > > day after surgery was pretty good, but ever since than the pain > has > > been very bad. Guest guest
Hi Kate, My name's and I am 2 weeks post op on a THR. I did have a PCA pump in for the first 2 days post-op in the hospital for pain ( I don't remember what medicine was in the pump), however I had a terrible itching reaction to the meds and couldn't wait to get on oral pain meds. This however turned out not to be much better as they put me on vicodin (sp?) and I had terrible nausea and was not allowed freedom of movement yet. I begged them to switch me to something else and they finally gave me Darvocet which seemed to work great. I only needed a small dose but it didn't seem to have any of the other nasty side effects I was experiencing. they sent me home with Darvocet for pain but encouraged me to try to switch over to tylenol as soon as I was comfortable with it. I seem to be okay with tylenol during the daytime hours when I am more mobile, but at night my muscles really cramp up and I need the darvocet still. Anyway, hope the info helps. Good Luck. - :-) > > Hi, > > > > My father-in-law just had both knees replaced on Tuesday. His > first > > day after surgery was pretty good, but ever since than the pain > has > > been very bad. Guest guest
Hey Kate, I had bi-lateral knee surgery 5/00. Your father in law will experience many levels of pain over the next few weeks of rehabilitation, make sure he takes his pain med at least an hour before rehab so that he can push himself alittle(no pain no gain) and in the long run have more flexability and less to no pain. Good luck. Peace, ieB > Hi, > > My father-in-law just had both knees replaced on Tuesday. His first > day after surgery was pretty good, but ever since than the pain has > been very bad.
