Hi

I am a 48yo female LTHR on 17.1.04. I am in the UK and was

recommended to take 12 weeks off work post op. I had an uncemented

joint and so was on 2 crutches for 6 weeks, then 1 crutch, then a

stick, finally walking totally unaided at around 14 weeks. I am a

primary school teacher working with 5/6 yo children. I would have

found it almost impossible to do my job while still on crutches as I

need to be pretty nimble to move around the classroom and lots of

fast-moving youngsters! I also need to be able to get down to their

level by kneeling at their tables or sitting on the floor - neither

of which I could do until well after the first 6 weeks when

restrictions were in place. I have found returning to work REALLY

tiring and trying to fit in the daily exercise I need to do to

continue strengthening my muscles is difficult - I get up at 6am to

do my workout before I go to work because I'm too tired to do it

when I get home!

Today I am off work because I have developed a heavy cold and have

lost my voice - I think that I have picked up something from the

work environment ( young children are very generous with their

germs!!) partly because I'm so tired - I find that my resitance gets

lower when I'm tired. During my post op time off I didn't have so

much as a sniffle, even though both my husband and son came down

with the flu'. So my advice would be - make sure that you are really

ready to go back - once back at work it's hard to take it easy - in

my job it's all or nothing - there is no way that you can have a

quiet day if you are feeling a bit weary.

All the best

Lesley
