Guest guest
Leave things alone for now. Later, when all scabs are gone, you might consider gently massaging in applications of a scar cream such as Mederma, or a vitamin e cream 2-3 times a day. Even if the creams don't accomplish a lot, the massaging action might help leave you with a smoother scar. Also keep the scar away from direct sunlight for about a year. Or you could ask your OS what he recommends to his " scarred " patients.
Guest guest
I used a product called Mederma ... directions say to use for 8 weeks for a new incision. Others will swear by Vitamin E oil and cocoa butter which are also good. You might consider having your physical therapist rub the incision to kind of smooth it out now that the staples are removed. > Hi all! Guest guest
Hi Kathy I am 13 weeks post op and have been using vitamin e cream on my scar since I had my staples out. I found that it made the skin much more supple and took away the itching. Lesley
Guest guest
Kathy, check with your surgeon, our surgeon is adamant that we not put anything on the incision. Others will let you put some neosporin, or anticeptic ointment on it. In a few weeks, when it is really well healed, you might start some vit E to relax the scar tissue, and make it more supple. Guest guest
My OS said it was ok to use Aloe cream on my incision after the staples were removed and it was healed up. About five weeks. Also said Vitamin E was ok. Re: Scar now healing - any suggestions to help the process? Kathy, check with your surgeon, our surgeon is adamant that we not put anything on the incision. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, it's another . I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op with a TLHR (I am 36 yrs old). My dr. took out the staples before I left the hospital and put steri-strips on the incision (this on day 5). Anyway, he told me not to put anything on the incision, and not to rub it even when I shower (just let the soap and water run over it) at least until my 6 weeks are up. I would ask your doc. - :-) > Hi all! Guest guest
HI Kathy.. Fellow londoner here... glad it went well for you!! I just had a masseuse telling me that once your scar is less tender, vit E oil, or E45, with a couple of drops of lavender and chamomile essential oil mixed in (to the whole pot) for scar rubbing purposes is very good! Guest guest
I assume you're addressing your question to me. Read this on incision care from National Library of Medicine, see page 1, column 2. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/tutorials/incisioncare/er039101.pdf > Why the advice to keep the scar tissue out of the sun?
