Guest guest
My brother in law made me neoprene covers to go over the armpit crutch part as well as the hand area - works great and relieves the pressure. Hubby bought me a pair of sports gloves - they have the finger tips cut out and padding on the palm area - and are leather type material. These gloves are great and really help with the sore hands/palms as well as the chafing my hands were getting. tanya
Guest guest
What is your weight bearing status? If you can walk 1-1.5 miles with your crutches, WHY are you using them? If you are weightbearing as tolerated, dump the crutches, slow down a little and focus on QUALITY of gait, not QUANTITY. IF you are not WBAT, remember that 50% weightbearing is equal weight on both feet and no more until cleared by the MD. Wrap a folded washcloth around the handles to build them up a little. This might help the pressure. Tape around them and then they should stay. Guest guest
Have you tried using padded gloves? I used bicycling gloves, you can get them at any bike shop or online at a place like http://www.Nashbar.com. Some have gel in them, mine just have heavy leather padding. Helped a lot, but my palms still developed callouses. Another option is to use gloves used by weightlifters. Hope that helps, good luck with your recovery, - > Hi everyone > Has anyone got any suggestions / ideas for relieving the pressure on > the heels of the hands and thumb joints while using two crutches? Guest guest
-Thanks for the info - I can't get rid of the crutches until I see my OS in a couple of weeks time so I'll try the padding tip!
