Guest guest
Hi Jim My surgeon took hold of my knee and showed me it was supposed to click; it has four joints in it. Clicking is okay. To ease the knee for sleeping, try a pillow under it. I have a contour bed and sometimes the only way I can get through the night is to raise the bottom a bit. Be sure if you lie on your side to keep a pillow between your knees, too. Yeah, flexing is still stretching scar tissue and muscles. It should go away soon. How much flex have you achieved? Marge I am a new member, 61 years old and had my knee replaced 4 weeks ago. I have been exercizing 45 minutes in the morning and at night and have been walking without a cane for two weeks. My joint seems to make a clicking feeling sometimes and my pain is just about gone except for a little at night which causes me not to sleep well. I would like to hear from others as to if this is normal or do I have problems. It also hurts when I try to improve my flex during exercize. Thanks,Jim
Guest guest
Marge, Thanks for the reply, I had 110 flex a week ago at my last therapy, it might be a little better now, but after the flex exercizes it is sore for a while. It also gets sore when I sit in a chair for a while. You said you had four joints, I think I have titanium on top and bottom with plastic attached to bottom, would you consider that two joints? Also thanks for the suggestions, it seems I wake up about every hour and have to move. Guest guest
Marilyn, Thanks again, I stopped taking pain pills about two weeks after surgery, will look for something OTC, any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi Jim, I agree with Marilyn that it sounds as though you're doing great for four weeks postop. I live in Canada and up here the doctors often give people Gravol to help them sleep at night. In the US, it goes by the name of Dramamine and it's used for motion sickness. Here, we use it a lot for nausea and it makes people very drowsy. I found that it helped me both before and after my hip replacement when I couldn't sleep. Good luck! Hey Jim, How well I remember! You said you had four joints, I think I have titanium on top and bottom with plastic attached to bottom, would you consider that two joints? Well. I do not know. I just know that a knee moves out and in and swivels left and right, and it has to be built for those motions. To me, that sounds like four joints. I am sure if you were to view some of the links that others have put on here, you would understand it more fully. It is enough for me that my leg works! Also thanks for the suggestions, it seems I wake up about every hour and have to move.It does get easier. I have been blessed with a contour bed and can lie there and just push a button which eases muscles, then I can drop right back to sleep. It is my opinion that we should all rent a hospital bed until we can sleep easy. MargeJim

Guest guest
Sharon, Thanks for the advice. We live in Las Vegas. So far her hospital stay has been hard. She developed a fever and has needed 2 units of blood post-op. Her pt's have been great!! They has pushed her a bit and she has done well. My mom is 68. She has a great doctor. Because of the fever, the hospital brought in their infectious disease doctors. They recommened going back to the OR and asperating her knee. Her ortho doc wasn't too quick to jump on that band wagon. I said that she should refuse to do it. The next day her fever broke and the infectious disease docs backed off the asperation. She has walked to the wall outside of her room. Today she is going to try to walk to the nurse's station. It is hard work but it makes her feel like she has accomplished something huge. Anyhow, thanks for your response and we are trying very hard to get into a rehab center that will be the best for her. Leigh Ann Hi! > My name is Leigh Ann. My mother had TKR yesterday. All I can say is be Patience and help her but let her do stuff for herself if she feels up to it . Don't put her in a Nurses Home I was put in one after both operations and thats the worst place to be put in and I was in a wheel chair in both places for two weeks and thats not good .Well you have a nice day. Guest guest
LOL LOL LOL That's good Bob. Related to the cement issue. My doctor does not us cement at all. He said that it is just another thing that has a potential of a negative reacting. The way I understand it is that the bone is prepared so that the metal fits on tightly. Kind of a press fit. The back side of the metal is honeycombed or something and that over time the bone grows into the spaces. I am not sure about the lower metal piece the pictures I have seen shows a piece that fits into the marrow cavity. Anyway would like to hear the pro's and con's of cement or not. Guest guest
, Before my daughter's wedding, I got cortisone in both knees. That got me through the parties, the rehearsal dinner, the reception line and even the dancing. I don't think I could have pulled if off two or even three months after surgery unless I doubled up on my pain pills. And that would mean no champagne. ;-( Everyone is different when it comes to recovery. But I think you would be gambling. Get some cortisone, have a blast and then have surgery when she gets back from the honeymoon so all the hullabaloo is over and she can help take care of mom. Donna Deb <garagesale1999@...> wrote: I had my pkr done in Nov I took about 9 weeks for me slow down on my pt. It would depend on the event and what your pain is now.
