Guest guest
Sherrie, I have never heard of what you are talking about. Now I had to wear a knee imobilizer(ms). A brace that kept my leg straight at night for 2 weeks every night after getting home from the hospital. Kim
Guest guest
See the following link about a Knee Dynasplint: http://www.dynasplint.com/knee.html It is a brace that can be used to promote extension when the patient is having trouble getting full extension on their own. The inexpensive way to do the same thing is a knee immobilizer. The end goal in bouth is to get the knee to go straight. Most people do the following exercises to help get full extension: 1) Sitting in a chair with the heel of the leg out on a chair or table. Hold for 2-5 MINUTES to stretch the back of the surgery leg. 2)Lie on your stomach across your bed with your knees just before the ededge. Straighten the surgery leg out so that it is hanging over the edge and allow it to stretch. Neither of these exercises is very comfortable but they are not supposed to be! You are stretching the back of the knee to get full ROM. Some people start the strengthening exercises too soon instead offocusing on the stretching. Guest guest
Sherri, I used a dynasplint for a few weeks after my TKR. It was not as bad as I thought it would be and after a few nites I was able to sleep ok. You increase the settings periodically when you can tolerate the extension..it was well worth using it as I am able to extend this leg much better then the previous replacement on the other knee I had done 11 yrs ago. You might want to wear a pair of pajama bottoms on the unaffected leg so when you move you won't feel the splint against that leg during the night..good luck, pam
Guest guest
Carol, No the one my insurance/doctor got me is Ultraflex. It works in a simalar fashion. My PT does recommend the Dynasplint. Mine is a full length brace, has two straps above the knee, 3 below on the front. A hinge at knee on both sides with adjustable tension and a window that shows the tension setting. Guest guest
I had to wear a leg brace this time in bed as I tend to bend the leg I had surgery on at a 90 degree angle and he didn't want me putting that much constant pressure on it. I had no problem wearing it and it did do the trick. On Sep 21, 2006, at 5:11 PM, Berube wrote: > It sounds very similar. Are you able to sleep with it on? Guest guest
Mine was not a dynasplint. I was a thigh to ankle brace with rods in it to keep my leg straight. I wore it for over a month and it really did help. Once the swelling in my knee was gone I started bending my knee up again so I became conscience of doing this and would straighten it.
