Do you think it is possible for a person to take a road trip 5 weeks post op?Thank you,Vera(Marge, I love your posts)CHUCKLE, THANKS VERA.

I THINK THAT SHOULD BE THE SURGEON'S CALL. I THINK THEY ARE WORRIED ABOUT US GETTING AN INFECTION AND HAVING IT SETTLE IN OUR PROSTHESES. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN HEARING, THAT IS A BIGGIE. SO IF WE TRAVEL, IT IS NOT SO MUCH THE STRESS ON THE HIP OR KNEE AS IT IS THE GERMS. ANYONE ELSE HAVE AN OPINION?I AM SITTING HERE RIGHT NOW BEGINNING TO GET WORRIED AT MY SORE THROAT. NOW I HAVE TO TRY TO REMEMBER WHERE I SAW MY THERMOMETER LAST. ?????????????

SAY--A NEW THOUGHT. IF YOU SIT WITH A HEATER BLOWING OVER YOUR LEGS, DOES THE STEEL INSIDE GET HOTTER THAN THE SKIN OUTSIDE?

Hi Vera,

Five weeks isn't very long and as you probably know might be too soon

to drive. But even if someone else drives, riding (sitting) for long

periods would have been a problem for me I think. I did take an 1800-

mile round trip over a 7-day period at 3 months and survived. We

stopped frequently so I could get out and walk around.

It pretty much depends on how you are doing at that point, your

doctor's opinion of the idea, and how far you're going. My guess is

that you might be able to manage it if your dr. approved but you

might not enjoy it very much.

I had the minimally invasive and drove at 3 weeks. At 4 weeks I drove

120 miles to school and back. My hip was great and my driving was quite

safe. The only reminder I had of my surgery and inactivity was scooting

into the car and out but that was just a blip. If I was a passenger in a

long trip, I would be sure to take the advice below and get out and walk

frequently. My doc says I can sit as long as I want now but should get up

every hour and walk a bit. Sometimes I get so involved in what I am

doing, I forget and pay a stiffness and muscle pain price on both sides of

my back side. Barbara

I remember reading sometime back a tip on getting in and out of cars. The poster said that plastic trash bags placed on the seat help a lot. With my big fanny, Ill probably need the 33 gal size...lol Only 15 days to go.danny> >Hi Vera,> >> >Five weeks isn't very long and as you probably know might be too soon> >to drive. Hi , I am wondering and LOL at what the people in England are making of your fanny sliding over garbage bags. Someone is sure to write to let you know. Sure means something different in England. <dan_pacnw@...> wrote:

Hi , LOL means the same in the U.K. but "fanny" means a different part of the anatomy. By the sound of your name, you haven't got one. LOL <dan_pacnw@...> wrote:
