Yes, my husband had a lot of back pain. He is now 2½ weeks post-op.

I had increasing back pain last year as my left hip deteriorated,

and mine too affected my knee and lower leg. I had several trips to

the physio for treatment to the sciatic area - that helped for a

while, but the real problem was my hip. I am now 7 weeks post op

LTHR and am happy to report that my back pain disappeared with my

old hip joint.

I hope that you will find this too

I am only 3 weeks post op so I am not sure of the results but yes I

had a lot of lower back pain.My doctor said the surgery sould help

some but also stressed doing abdominal crunches daily. The stronger

your stomach the less pain you will get in your back.

Hi Have you tried PIlates? It's great for " core stability " ie the

girdle of muscles around your stomach and back. The emphasis is

always on using the correct muscles to support your back. I used it

for several years pre op when I couldn't do the high impact stuff

I'd been doing and found it really beneficial. Of course I wouldn't

advise you to take it up without consulting your OS or Physio, but

my Physio was all for me continuing my routine pre op and she is

going on a Pilates course soon, so that she can advise patients of

suitable exercises, so I look forward to getting back to it soon.

All the best

I have only taken a beginner level Pilates course, but I don't see why

you could not continue w/ your pilates as long as you 1.) stay within

your hip precautions, and 2.) use modified positions to protect the new

joint. So, keep the operative extremity on the floor, or bent knee,

with foot flat on the floor, and continue with the basic core

stabilization exercises. The most important part will be getting up

off the floor.

Good Luck, And Yes, Pilates is much better exercise for abdominal and

trunk control than just crunches!
