Guest guest
Hello Barbara and congratulations on your good outcome! I had my right hip done on Nov 28th and am doing well. Every day the pain recedes and I need less pain relief - except for at night, when everything still aches Yesterday was the first day when my new hip felt like part of me: prior to that, I could walk on it (with crutches) ok, but it felt 'foreign', if you know what I mean! I guess that indicates that the healing is going well in NZ (41 yrs, uncemented, metal-on-metal THR)
Guest guest
Hello Barbara from another Michigander -- I'm over in Allegan County. Glad to hear things are going so far fine for you. I had have some incontinenace off/on since the surgery once I was off the narcotics. I attributed that to needing a 2nd hip replacement, weak muscles, and the fact it is hard for me to get to the bathroom fast! I'll see how I do after I recover from the next one. Best wishes to you on your recovery, as well. Jackie
Guest guest
Hi Barbara I am so happy for your recovery, On Nov 20 I had a partial knee replacement, the knee is healing great and thought today I would be able to get out and do some easy running around with a friend, but woke up with feeling weak and coughing up junk. I am 50 and this is my first surgery. I came home to a sickly husband who was hacking and not being careful with his germs, he had 2 rounds of antibiodics and then I go to outpaient theapy last wed and get a call friday that the lady that works on me was home sick and today I had to call and cancel the pt due to me being weak and coughing us junk. I just ate my first food for the day and have a apt tomorow with my doctor asthma and colds ad flus don't go well together. I have had a real hard time with depression as I am usualy caregiver to my parents. I am in michigan also area went to chelsea for my surgery. Now just got to get over the winter crud and back to pt. I hope I never have to have surgery again. Hoping our Christmas is healthy and happy with a new year full of nothing but good stuff. Setting with ice bag on knee and trying to keep warm. Keep going forward and you sure have encouraged me to not feel sorry for my self., You go Gal - deb > > Hello to all of you out there who are going into the holidays with the hope for better walking! I wouldn't have had surgery as late as Dec. 8 if I could've gotten it earlier, but it was that or spend the time barely mobile. Really, in spite of pain & precautions, I'm walking better than I could before. > I had my right knee done Nov. 15 '05; now I got a new hip on the same side. It's cemented (I'm 77), with a large head to help ward off displacement. The OS says he lengthened the leg about an inch. I spent an extra night in the hospital because my hemoglobin was low & I needed a couple of units of blood. So, surgery Friday afternoon & home Tuesday PM. I'm getting home care, nursing & PT both. > I can walk around quite well with the walker, could probably do fine with 2 sticks, but not ready for just a cane yet. I go up & down the stairs once a day using the cane. Can stand in the kitchen to make my coffee or my lunch. > The pain is well controlled, 2 Lortabs about every 6 hours; I'm definitely not ready to cut back yet! I'm not back on my arthritis med (Celebrex), because of the anti-coagulant (Lovenox), & my shoulders et al are beginning to bother me more. > The incision isn't draining any more. Looks good--much better than the mangled skin where the adhesives tore me up! We solved that problem, by the way: use something called Duo-Derm, which sticks without adhesive, & tape the dressings to that! > I imagine my progress is about the same as others so far? How are the rest of you recent THRs doing? > The only thing that's worrying me is that I've been somewhat incontinent since my surgery. I don't have any fever or other signs of UTI, except urgency & loss of control. Has anyone else had this problem? > Best wishes for a good recovery & pain-free walking next year! > Barbara > > Barbara Ward > Macomb County, Michigan > > > > __________________________________________________ >
