I agree. You need to get one you need one. Living with pain isn't fun. And when there is no need why do it. Hmm this women's knee is interesting. Have to find out some more info on it. I don't need one. But interesting to know this stuff if a person ever does. Well good luck keep us up to date.

He said that I will be getting a Zimmer Flex. He said that they have also just came out with a new knee just for women but it will not be available until 2007. So maybe I can get that one for my right knee...LOLI would love any advise? Hello Kim, I am having a RTKR with a Zimmer Flex on June 27 so will be interested to keep track with you on the process. I am a very young (LOL) 62, active and the last six months of pain have me so frustrated that I am looking forward to the surgery and a new life. I have just returned from traveling for 3 weeks and it was agony dragging this bad knee around. Meanwhile, I am working hard with PT exercises to be as strong as possible before surgery, and also am busy preparing my house, etc. Wishing you great success and do keep in touch. Hi Kim, The class is very helpful. I went to mine on May 13. I learned a lot but got more confidence from the fact that I was in such good shape compared to the others and many of them had already had the other knee or hip done and really recommended the process. Right now I am just so weighted down by the stress of the constant pain and unreliability of the knee. I work full-time and am fortunate that everyone is understanding and helpful but I hate having the focus be put on me for my weak knee! Meanwhile, I am trying to help care for my 95 yr old father and clean out his house, for sale, before my surgery. Too much! I was interested to read what you wrote about the woman's knee coming in 2007. Hopefully, I can have that for my left knee when that gets done a few years down the road. Are you nervous about the process? I can feel my tension level up a bit but then I think the pain is causing more stress than

the thought of surgery and the aftermath. Feel free to e-mail me off-site at morsekittyl@... Marciakendrick1086@... wrote: Hello Marcia, I am 40 yrs old......with two bad knees. Hi Kim,

The knee your referring to for women I've heard about from another

TKR site I'm on, but there's not much onfo on it yet. I'm sure the

one your getting has a web site, perhaps you can check it out. Also

do a search on the web and maybe you can find some people posting

about their experience with this type of knee. Mine is a

Nephew, which I'd never heard of before so that's what I did. I'm 10

week post-op from my LTKR. I've had some probs because my surgery

was a bit more complicated from my 3 previous surgeries, and I aqlso

had to have a manipulation about 3 weeks ago. But now my PT is

finally going great and my ROM in about 98 degrees. The only time I

take my pain meds is before PT, maybe once in a while afterwards.

Like many others here, I was told for a few years I was " too young "

for a replacement. I lived for years with it being bone on bone and

full of arthritis and spurs. It effected my quality of life so much

but I finally was fortunate enough to find an OS that said at 48

years young it was time. I had mine done on March 14th.

The classes you're going to take will really help. I also researched

online and found a great book. I learned alot from the people here

as well. The next few weeks will just be a waiting game for you.

Plenty of time tho to get your house ready and food stocked up for

yourself. And make arrangements to have someone come and help you

after you get home from the hospital if you live alone.

You'll do fine! Best of luck to you.

Thanks Deb

I do not leave alone I am married with 2 small children 2 and 7. My mother and morther - in -law are going to come out and help me.

I really enjoy hearing from other TKR's about their experiances.

I keep going back and forth wondering if I have made the right decision.

My knee does not really hurt all the time. It only hurts if I try and do any walking or going up and down stairs a lot. I have been feeling very depressed because I could not even play with my children.

I am sure I am doing the right thing. Just wish my OS would quite questioning my decision.

Hi Marcia,

I have a theory that it is the stress that brings on more pain, and I

suppose a bit of a never ending cycle because more pain brings more stress

brings more pain etc.

You have quite a lot on your plate at the moment.

Make sure you do look after yourself.

Hi ....

I was worried about gaining weight too after surgery since obviously

I'd be less active. Prior to surgery I'd lost 10 pounds. But since

the surgery I've lost another 15....most of it during the first couple

of weeks. I know this was due to the anesthesia making me not want to

eat. Food just tasted strange to me. My OS says this happens to alot

of people. That and the not sleeping.

This makes over 100 pounds I've lost in the past 2 years :) I know

this is gonna be great for my new knee and make it last longer too.

God knows I don't want to go thru this again!!

The Zimmer High Fles knee is the component that is available for

people with a pre-op knee flexion of 120 degrees or more. What this

means is that when you bend your knee well before surgery, the surgeon

will choose to put in a knee that will give you the maximum

possibility for high flexion after surgery. People that have less

than 120 degrees of flexion would receive the LPS knee (for the

surgeon that uses Zimmer components). According to studies, the more

ROM you have pre-op means the more ROM you can gain post-op.

Alisa,

Thanks for the clarification. Have you ever heard of a " Nephew " ,

which is what I received? I went to their website, not much product

info there. My OS says he'd be happy if I can get my ROM to 100.

Perhaps this is based on how far my particular prosthesis goes, and my

flex pre surgery.
