You are never too young if you are in that much pain, and your quality

of life is compromised. Go get a second opinion from another

orthopedist....just my recommendation.

Hi traveling,

I was in my 30's when I had my first hip put in.

However do remember that that means having it done again several times.

I have just had my hip revised (18th August) and will (by the doctor's odds)

have it done again before I am 65 and retire from work.

Some of my clients in their 70's are being told they are too young for hips

or knees.

Yes, I was too young, but life was a bitch back then. I have a pretty good

life now and it was the surgery that changed my life. I get jittery though

when I think of having to have it done again. It isn't nice surgery. As

one of my fellow room mates in hospital told her relatives " this is a pain

factory here, a very painful place. "

There are benefits and costs.

Talk to the surgeon about what it means lifestyle wise.

Hugs

Margaret

My appologies if this comes twice. I thought I sent it before but it

hasn't come up.

The only requirement for a joint replacement is that you have

a " mature " skeleton, i.e. you have stopped growing.

  • 2 weeks later...

, if you are only 43, please take a look at the site:

www.stoneclinic.com. Stone in San Francisco is well known for

doing cartilage replacement, and helping people rehab to be able to

function at a high level after surgery. He works on a lot of

athletes who have serious problems. Maybe he could consult via

phone/mail if you don't live near S.F. Best of luck, maryann

p/s tried to sendthis before so may be a duplicate...
