Patty,

Check out this web site. http://www.stoneclinic.com/

unicompartmental_knee_replacement.htm I was searching out on the web for my

brother who has crummy knees and is younger than you. Only replacing parts of

the

knee may be an option and postpone the total replacement until later.

If you practice yoga I would be concerned about standard hip replacement.

The

size of the ball and socket is smaller than the natural joint and dislocation is

a real

problem. There are two technologies that have a ball the same size as the

natural

joint. Large head metal-on-metal and resurfacing (which uses the same size head

and socket. I consider resurfacing the best choice as it leaves most of the

femur

intact (instead of cutting it off). Should a revision be needed in the future

(unlikely)

there is a complete bone to work with. The revision would be to a FIRST total

hip

instead of a second.

Check out this site for more info and discussion on the procedure. http://

Mea culpa Patty,

Forget all I said about hips. I misread your post. Good luck with your

knees,

though.

Patty: I am guessing that you have pretty good knee bend (flexion) if

you are doing yoga now. My understanding of patients without knee caps

(patellectomy) have limited knee flexion. If you can participate now,

there should be no reason why you could not after you have rehab'd. You

should do better, as they will probably give you new knee caps w/ the

TKP's. It may take several months before you feel like doing some of the

movements, or positions, but the yoga will probably help you to relax

and get that stretch needed for the range of motion.

Hi Patty,

I just had a TKR but sorry to say do not practice yoga. Have you

asked your doctor or physical therapist?

I wish there were more posts here on knee replacement. Does anyone

know of a group devoted more to TKR's?

Hi Patty,

Ouch!! That is similar to what my physical therapist is doing for

the stiffness in my right knee post TKR, but it hurts like h*ll!!

Did it hurt you too, or am I just super-sensitive as far as pain???

Thanks,

Doris

I wish there were more posts here on knee replacement. Does anyone know of a group devoted more to TKR's? >>> AOL has joint replacement board which offers knee along with other specified joint topics. You might try there to see if you can access theirs. I can't honestly say that I know how many posts it has or how helpful it might be to you but certainly is worth a try. Just

AOL People Connection: Message Boards

I don't know how exactly to access it when your not a member but I would say it's the same. The path is under illness/condition boards then to arthritis and choose joint replacement. If you have any problems getting there Doris yell back at me and I'll see if I can't get you the step by step to get there. I know Momsie711 is knee replacement and so is now... but not real certain on others, as I'm still fairly new trying to keep track of the who's who just yet myself. Luck 2 ya~
