Guest guest
Hi Leigh and Welcome Home I know for me that coming home was a great benefit, it is easy to become institutionalised in a hospital and so being at home was the beginning of normal life - imagine that, having a normal, pain free life! Good luck with the start of your physio next week. I was kept in hospital for a few extra days because some of the muscles in my legs were horrendously weak. I am convinced that I have never used a couple of them before. Physio has helped hugely. I have realsied that it isnt just children that like to hear that they are doing well. I love the positive-ness of my physio, just hearing that I am making progress makes me more determined to continue. Our surgeons sound quite similar in their attitude. I too lost blood in the op and was not given a transfusion and hence went anaemic. Its therefore not surprising that I fainted the first time I stood up - oh boy that was a fun afternoon! Im so pleased that things are going well for you. You have been through a lot and I wish you a speedy recovery. I hope the pain that you have goes soon and that they give you the shoulder crutches. Can you send me a spare pair if they have one, my wrists are killing me today! Anyway the sun is shining so I am going for a walk down the road, just a little bit further than yesterday. Keep in touch Leigh Liney x ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Messenger - all new features - even more fun! http://uk.messenger. Guest guest
Hi Leigh., I just wanted to tell you to take care and have a speedy recovery. Have a nice day. At this stage i have relatively little pain considering I has the THR with 2 osteotomies at the same time. I'm amazed at the surgeons skill! To liney, it will take me a while to get back up to speed on the posts. Glad your doing well. I too am non-weight bearing, in my case due to the bone grafts. I do worry that sometimes I put a little too much weight on the leg and am so looking forward to seeing that everything looks ok on the 6 week check up. You are so right about the sore hands!! I'm using horrible elbow crutches and the only part that hurts is the hands! I start physio next week and am hoping for some under arm 'old style' critches so I can get further than the end of my street.I think for me its too early to say that I feel better than I did pre-op but the hip feels not too bad considering. The arthritis pain is definitely gone though!I've had quite a long recovery since I was in the bizzare situation where the blood I lost during surgery was not replaced as the surgeon did not want to give me a transfusion of someone elses blood and I was not offered the chance to donate blood. It has taken 2 weeks mainly to get over the anaemia this casused! They did not give me iron tablets either as my surgeon has published a paper saying that folic acid helps release the bodies iron stores. So I got folic acid in hospital and went straight on the iron tablets when i escaped their clutches!Anyway I'm back and strong now. I can lift the leg off the bed and even now at this early stage have a much greater range of motion than pre-op. I must now catch up on 18 days of posts! Best wishes,Leigh

Guest guest
Hi Linney, Just comparing notes :-) You talk of the sock thingy-does that mean you are not wearing teds or have you figured out a way to get them on with the sock thing? I gave up trying. I'm supposed to wear teds 6 weeks. I have to get my mother to put them on, which makes me feel 2 year old.. Interesting to know you never got any blood too. Wonder what they do with all the donated blood in this country.. The pains gone-figured straight leg raises are causing more bother than they are worth for me just now. I'll see what the physio says monday. The delay in physio being due to me recovering at my parents in a different town. My muscles too have moved. I used to have a muscle above my knee but now its half way up my thigh. What sort of exercises do you do with your physio out of interest? Happy healing, Leighx PS Susie, bone grafts differ but for mine they took the old femur head and placed it into the socket to make a better socket for the THR to be put into, then pinned it in place. Then hey presto it heals with the surrounding bone, hopefully!
