Guest guest
I did set off a metal detector at the airport in Las Vegas last summer. They took me aside and "re-scanned" me with a wand. I told them that I had a total left hip replacement and the security person said that must have been what set it off and let me go. I do have a card from my doctor that states my hip replacement, but I didn't have to show it. -----Original Message-----From: [mailto:dan_pacnw@...] Sent: Monday, February 23, 2004 9:28 PMJoint Replacement Subject: Airport Security Question?Have any of you had any problems with metal detectors and security staff at airports? Guest guest
My husband flys pretty frequently. He just tells them right up front that he has a hip replacement, and empties his pockets, takes off his shoes and belt, and they rescan him w/ the wand. They always ask him how long it has been, and how he is doing. He has never shown his card. Marilyn Frieda Cyrus wrote: Message I did set off a metal detector at the airport in Las Vegas last summer. Guest guest
I've set off detectors at about a 50% rate, half don't detect my metal hips, half do. Ohare - no; Miami, yes; Jamaica, yes. Iowa, no. If you set one off, likely you'll be pulled aside and wanded by hand. I don't consider this a big problem at all. They're just doing their jobs. I have a card from my doctor but the card serves no purpose beyond giving me a handy reference to his name and phone number! Anyone could print up a card. I flashed it but no one ever looked at it. Guest guest
Oh yes.. Had an amusing encounter with a young lady, who couldn't speak a word of english, with me trying to explain that my hip was metal, even though I was 26. >From: " " <dan_pacnw@...> >Reply-Joint Replacement >Joint Replacement >Subject: Airport Security Question? >Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2004 02:28:14 -0000 > >Have any of you had any problems with metal detectors and security >staff at airports? Guest guest
I had jury duty the end of January and was actually picked for a jury. We had to go through metal detectors ientering the court house and only one (both hipw have been replaced) of my hips went off. IIt was the security person who asked me if I had had a hip replacement. There was not problem.....he just let me through. Sally
