Guest guest
, I don't know what "they" say re: dogs and pain. I DO know this... poor has been in so much pain that he just lays there and moans, and what hurt me so was that the pain meds they gave him could only be given once a day or split in half and given twice, we did the later. We also gave him a 1/4 of a whole tab at bedtime so he could sleep. He is doing better now *S* and he is trotting along on three legs, the 4th in a firmly wrapped bandage. Our house sits about 10 feet up from ground level, so there is no way to enter or exit the home barrier free. My vet said he has to keep from jumping up and down off furniture and climbing stairs. We have been taking out at regular times so he can do his business. This has been difficult for me to do because my left hip (THR) and my right knee (TKR) are both now in such bad condition that bending is not an easy task. Thankfully Ken (my husband - a semi-truck driver) has been able to be home every night since came home. I thank you so much for writing. I never, in my wildest imagination thought that they could do knees for dogs. He goes in to the vet in the morning for a blood work up to make sure that the pain meds is not causing kidney or liver issues. Does your fur-baby experience any obvious problems with the leg now? How old was she when the injury happened? My will be 14 years in October. You know what, Ken and I have noticed the last couple days that he isn't panting like he had been! We are now wondering, was the panting because of the pain? We would get his beautiful pomeranian coat cut down and have his under coat blown because we thought he was hot! Now we think it may have been because he was in pain. We know that he had a luxating patella (sp?) for years, but it never "appeared" to bother him... now we wonder??? panting - pain??? Glad to hear your girl is doing good now. Would love to hear more about her, should you care to share, you are most welcome to email in private if you wish. I think that's a bunch of BS. Anyway, my dog tore her ligaments in her left hind leg. It really took her about 9 months to get back on it and to get enough nerve to jump on the couch. Her scar was 9 inches long. I felt so sorry for her, but now she's fine.
