Ask your surgeon, he will be the one to decide when or if, you can relax

your precautions.

Hi Pat,

I usually start using a regular tiolet seat after three months. I have done it with all 4 of my THR's and always done ok.

Hi everyone,I meant to ask my OS about this last week but forgot. Instead, I am coming to you experts for an answer!I had a THR three months ago. I have been using an elevated toilet seat since. When can I do away with this? Do I have to wait for 6 months to get past the period of highest risk for a dislocation, or can I change now if I am comfortable on a lower one? Thanks in advance for your reply.PatT

And I was wondering how high the seat is supposed to be. I just

installed a new higher toilet to prepare but was wondering if I will

need to have a elevator

Has your Dr. lifted any resrictions as of yet?

Usally it is 6/8 weeks for bone to heal unless you had a bone graft.

I would just call and leave a message with the nurse and let them et

back with you.

I had my surgery on May 19 and went back the last time on June 17.

The dr. told me to use the elevated toilet seat for another 6 months.

advised me to get one raised 10cm equally all round - this is what

she recommends for her post-THR clients - she says it's not

necessary to get one that is lower on the operated side. As I shall

most likely need to have the other hip operated on within a few

months, an equally-elevated seat would be suitable for both sides.

So I already went out and bought one.

is not recommended, and that I should get one that slants downwards

on the right side, to keep the leg at the correct 70% position.

(which means I shall have to get another one when I have the left

hip done.)

I'll level with you. My raised seat is the same height all around,

and it has given me no discomfort. The toilets in the French clinic

where I had my operation were built higher than normal, but were

level.

I would assume that you'll have more serious things to worry about.

The most useful tool I bought in advance--and took with me to the

hospital--was a grabber.

I tend to drop things, and picking them up with a well-constructed

grabber is easy. The person sharing my room in the clinic often

borrowed mine.

I also use it to put on my underwear and pants.

You can even grab passing nurses with it!
