Guest guest
: The advantage of hard bearing surfaces such as metal-on-metal and, to a slightly lesser extent, ceramic-on-ceramic is they generate substantially less debris (the wear particles from the rubbing of the two surfaces). This is significant because the wear particles are thought to be the cause of Osteolysis which often results in loosening. Also, hard bearing surfaces can be made into larger joints - larger femoral balls and the larger joint results in more range of motion and less risk of dislocation. All of this allows one to maintain a more active lifestyle. In addition to being available in Total Hip Replacement, metal-on-metal is also available in resurfacing, which is a slightly different kind of device. I have a metal-on-metal resufaced hip and (6 months, so far) I am quite happy with the results. I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have (if I can). Guest guest
If your husband is only 36 be sure he checks out hip resurfacing before he has a THR. go to: http://Joint Replacement ,/ for some great information from people who have had this surgery. It conserves the femur. there is also information on the site AC sent you. You siad " it is not the resurfacing " but my guess is this might be because the doctors he has seen are not skilled in this procedure. take your time making a decision. best wishes, mvp > > Hello.
