Guest guest
Welcome back, Don. I'm delighted it went well! Today is my three-month anniversary for my BTKRs. And I seem to be on schedule. I'm sure there some with less pain and meds and more flexibiltity But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I cleaned and decorated the house a bit last night into the early morning hours. I was amazed what I could do Then I went to work, then grocery shopping. Of course, I'm hurting tonight, but the calvary is coming to the rescue tomorrow. My kids and grandkids are coming to set up the tree and decorate it. And finish up. I'll sit with my scones and coffee and supervise. That will be a first in my life! :-) Do stay in touch and let us know how you progress. Being the 3-month veteran I am, maybe I'll even have some wise advice. My first woud not to over-do.That set me back time and time again until I finally got the hang of following every activity with a rest. I learned to love my ice wraps, warm blankets, pillows, books and movies, and the meals other people prepared and miss them so much now that I'm back at the office. It all seems like a dream now when I'm driving home from work after dark, shivering until the heater gets going. There should be a time after recovery when you get to do that all again, except this time without pain. :-) Don <donavp@...> wrote: Hi all:Well I made it. Went in Dec 4 Monday morning. Was out of surgery atnoon. Had a lower block and lite sedative. The pain and all was asexpected and the hospital staff was very responsive to my needs. Iwas never denied any thing (food or meds). I had operations on mylegs when I was young so I had some experience. In the past I had ageneral anesedthic(sp). Have the local block and sedative is the wayto go. No side effects or long recovery period. Had an appetite ofthe day of surgery (liquids) but it tasted good. Had octatonton(sp)as my major pain med and vicodin and some shot (forgot the name) if Istill needed more. The shot made you sleepy so I used it at night forsleep.SLEEP, that is one of the thing that you loose. First the nightbefore you wake up because of the operation tomorrow. I would suggesta hot toddy or something to relax and get as much sleep as you can. The night after the operation I woke up every few minutes from a verydeep sleep (it seemed to me anyway) but got back to sleep. One of thenurses called cat naps and said most go thru it. By the third day Iwas sleeping longer like 3-4 hours before I would wake up. I wasusually able to get back to sleep however. The last two nights Icould not get comfortable thus not able to get to sleep. You do gettired of laying on you back after a will.I had been doing exercises before the operation and I believe thathelped a lot. I do get tired quickly but am able to walk with awalker about 75' twice a day. Will keep the exercises going at home.My extension (straightness) is 10 degrees and I can bend to 84 degrees.Just thought I would post for those who have not been there done that.OH! no pain in the old knee (Thank you lord).
