Guest guest
Australia Ann? Where is he going? Glad you are doing well. Aussie Margaret RTHR 1990 revised 2004 3 weeks ago today I had my RTHR and this morning I walked up and downstairs (15 steps) normally, it felt so good. Yesterday I walked out in the field for 10 minutes - got to the top of the 10 acre field and then turned around and back, felt so good to have fresh air on my face. I go back to see the surgeon on friday - I'm going to drive the car this morning too, just a short distance, but I have to be mobile as my husband leaves in 10 days for 3 weeks in Australia and the far east. Last night was the first night I slept properly since the op, without having to take something to make me sleep - I feel so much better for that this morning. Onward and upward I say. Amazing, Jan 1 in Ontario and not a speck of snow, so unreal. ann Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.
Guest guest
down to the office just outside Brisbane - Beerwah (now that's my husband's spelling so who knows) - I'll take a bet the moment he goes we'll have major snow storms a month late LOL. I actually drove the car today 3 weeks after my op, but got very car sick, think its because of the angle you have to sit, anyone else have the problem? ann 3 weeks ago today > > > I had my RTHR and this morning I walked up and downstairs (15 steps) > normally, it felt so good. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I just looked up where you had your surgery. Do you live near Brisbane? I wish I had been thinking clearly when my son left on a cruise to Australia. He is going to be in Brisbane on the 8th (I think). I know he would have loved to meet a native, specially one as special as you. He'll only be there a day, then on to Sydney. Maybe someday I'll get to meet the Aussie Margaret. You've given a lot to this group and your insights are usually right on. All this from a descendant of barbarians . Oh, I do have a questions for you. When I looked up the time difference from the US and Darwin, Australia, it seems that they are running 1/2 hr out of sync to the East and West Coast. Is that really true and if so why? Thanks for all you have shared with us. Happy New Year. Dahhling Re: 3 weeks ago today Australia Ann? Where is he going? Glad you are doing well. Guest guest
Wow! Driving after only three weeks out from your operation, my doctor refuses to release me to drive until at least six weeks. I tried to talk him down to four weeks as I am feeling fine, walking without a cane and I'm doing 10 minutes twice a day on the bike, but he wasn't having any of it. My wife sides with the doctor because of safety and liability concerns. You would think my wife would be more into me driving sooner rather than later, she claims I am the absolute worst back/front seat driver on the planet. She also said her sister advised her to put me out on the side of the road and call me a cab. I said, " I thought your sister liked me? " My wife said, " She does, I was ready to just put you out along side the road. It was her idea to call you a cab. " So I guess I will close my eyes and mouth and maybe we can get through the next seven days, sixteen hours (give or take a minute) without winding up on Jerry Springer or Dr. Phil. You be careful about pushing the envelope too hard on this driving thing. Your strength and your reflexes are going to need to be sharp in an emergency. And while you may be able to avoid the drunk careless or sleepy driver out there with your name on his bumper, you can never account for all the ones with " To Whom It May Concern! " You be very careful, best of luck and O-Yes, Live Long and Prosper. Guest guest
yes dave I agree if I lived in town, but I don't, I'm in the wilds of Ontario - my doc said it was up to the insurance company, insurance company said no problem with driving. I wouldn't drive in Toronto, but up here to the corner store or the coffee house 7 miles away I have no problem with. ann 3 weeks ago> today> >> >> > I had my RTHR and this morning I walked up and> downstairs (15 steps)> > normally, it felt so good. Guest guest
Wow, that is very close. On the north side of Brisbane where I am on the south. Why aren't you coming with him? Oh well, maybe next time. We will get this meeting up on the road sometime. Maybe he can bring some rain with him. We are on class 4 water restrictions. Means we cannot use a garden hose AT ALL, and can only water with bucket or watering can for a couple of hours a day. Send water! Guest guest
i'll send you the snow when it comes. I came to aussieland about 6 years ago, but its one hell of a long flight - 28 hours from here and that pushes me just a bit and at this time it would push me a lot - sitting I find very difficult and I know I'm breaking all rules using my lazyboy chair, but I can't cope with the wedge. When I'm fit again who knows. I went to Perth that time, so maybe brisbane next time. ann Re: 3 weeks ago today > > > | down to the office just outside Brisbane - Beerwah (now that's my > husband's > | spelling so who knows) - I'll take a bet the moment he goes we'll have > major > | snow storms a month late LOL. Guest guest
I'll answer two things here (actually I answered 3). Barbarians are people. It is surprising how people can blossom given the opportunity. I do a lot of work using long termed unemployed and I see how rejected stones are really diamonds and even iron ore is beautiful when polished. *smile* We have a number of time zones in Australia. It is a very big country. At the moment Hobart, Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin and Perth are all using different times. You will notice 3 of those places are all on the east coast of Australia. Brisbane doesn't do daylight savings, Sydney does a one hour daylight savings, Hobart does a two hour daylight savings. Darwin is so far West it is in another time zone, and Perth uses another one again as it is further west still. Aussie and I used to talk using messenger each morning. We couldn't work out why we were suddenly missing each other all the time. It's that daylight savings rubbish. I'm not particularly strong one way or the other if we have it or not, just wish the whole east coast would do the same thing. By the way, I live in a suburb of Brisbane about 20 minutes away from the Airport in off peak. Guest guest
Hi. Ya, I'm driving after 3 weeks also. I'm very lucky, though. My car is the perfect height to get in and out of...not to tall and not too low (thank the Gods). I must say, the seat belt is quite uncomfortable. It rubs right on the tender part of my incision, so I haven't been driving too much. Going to the store, picking up my daughter from school...that's about it. Oh yes, and to work. I put in my first day back at work yesterday. Longest day of my life, and I got almost nothing done. I sit at a computer all day and I had to get up every 30-45 minutes to walk and stretch. Even with that I took a long lunch and came home to ice. Felt much better after. Luckily, my husband and I own our business so cutting out to ice is not that big a deal. I'll just have to get used to working a bit more slowly with all the breaks. My best Christmas present was being able to go to the store which my hubby and I did on Christmas Eve. It's amazing how good doing the little things feel after being confined. I'm walking with a cane and I'm really close to putting that down too. My friends tell me that already I'm walking better, smoother than I did before surgery. I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, soon I'll be riding a bike again, hiking, and one of these days I'll be back on my Harley. I can't wait. It's great to have a place to express these feelings and know that they are understood. Thanks for being there. > > > down to the office just outside Brisbane - Beerwah > > (now that's my husband's > > spelling so who knows) - I'll take a bet the moment > > he goes we'll have major > > snow storms a month late LOL. Guest guest
good on you mary, is this a hip or knee - I have a problem with driving because of having to sit with your hip higher than your knee - how do you handle this ann 3 weeks ago> > today> > >> > >> > > I had my RTHR and this morning I walked up and> > downstairs (15 steps)> > > normally, it felt so good.
