Guest guest
Hi Stan, I thought you had only one hip done, am I right? I don't remember now. I cheated this week and I drove a little. Shhhhh! don't tell my doctor. Well it's only one more week till it's 6 weeks anyway. I had some discomfort too after. I usually just move my foot back and forth from the gas to the break but I felt better when I lifted my leg a little instead of the slight twisting of the foot. I was watching the movie " French Kiss " with Meg and Kline on cable, and I was thinking about you! (Well, you're the only French guy I know) Very funny movie. Meg goes to France to win back her fiance' who dumped her and she ends up falling in love with a Frenchman who was a thief who stole a necklace to finance buying a vinyard to make wine. I got to see the French countryside. Beautiful. > > > At the age of 53 I have had bilateral hip replacement just 3 > weeks > > > ago, and I am feeling great. Guest guest
" French Kiss, " , was a truly funny film, in my judgment. North Americans and French people were sterotyped to the hilt, but it was all in good fun. The village where Kline angrily bashed his brother who drove into the square with a car is only about 20 minutes from where I live, a village called Valbonne. Although it is a picturesque medieval village, there are never goats in the area. The village, in the film, was supposed to be much farther inland in France--near where s " family " lived in the real countryside. The beach area where they stayed was filmed in Cannes, where I usually swim. The hotels along the Croissette are quite elegant, such as the Carlton, where they stayed. Meg was really good as the Canadian in the film, wasn't she? And Klein couldn't have done better as a stereotypical Frenchman, the kind I never meet. Yes, the French countryside is beautiful. I never tire of visiting the villages that have retained their ancient flavor. It's not an accident that the flavor has not changed. Laws are very restrictive. In the area where I live, new houses have to look on the outside like the ones that were built long ago. None of us mind. The standards of living are as high in France as anywhere in the world now. We even have soft toilet paper!! And now to shift to far more exciting topics: Yes, I only had my right hip done. Regarding driving, according to the hip manuals, I'm only supposed to be starting to drive now. However, I've been driving for 8 weeks. Everyone is different. There are reasons for restrictions. Those with uncemented hips, as I have, need to give their bone the change to grow and fuse to the prothesis. I read that if this isn't done properly during the first six weeks, it may never be properly done. So just because you, I, or Margaret has done something doesn't mean that everyone can do the same with impunity. What we can do post-hip- op depends on a myriad of factors. Cheers, (I like that prénom) Staninfr > > > > At the age of 53 I have had bilateral hip replacement just 3 > > weeks > > > > ago, and I am feeling great. Guest guest
Excuse me, Charlotte, for a couple of blatant errors in the response I made. I said, " change, " instead of " chance. " I said, " Just because you, I, or Margaret has done something... " I think I should have used the word " have, " right? Guest guest
Hi Stan, Oh My God! I'm so glad you saw the movie! It was so funny! SO romantic! I can't believe you live in that beautiful countryside! (sigh) It's wonderful that they make the people keep the houses a certain way. Some towns here have the same policy. Meg was really good in that movie. She's funny. Kline was very funny but he just looked like he needed a shower and shave all the time. yuch. Yeah well, speaking of us driving, I hope next week when I go to my surgeon for the six week post op, there isn't anything wrong. I hope I didn't do any damage driving before I was allowed to. Yesterday I decided to go for a 15 min walk and I was hurting when I got back. (not taking pain medication anymore, I bite the bullet) I keep thinking I can do things and then my body says " HEY! we only just got operated on a few weeks ago! Guest guest
I was a student in Nice in the early 1960s. I fell in love with the area, the people, and the French culture. It became my dream to live between Nice and Cannes one day. I revisited each summer until I took early retirement. I then fulfilled my dream. I have never regretted my decision. You might be amazed at how many Americans live happily in other countries. I resume teaching English next Tuesday to adult Frogs and Frogettes. I have to drive through Valbonne (where smacked his brother) on my way to Sophia Antipolis (the Silicon Valley of France) where I teach my class. (Okay, fellow gringos. Read my words carefully. I am not being critical of the US merely because I praise another region. People can love more than one object. Think of your children. They may be different, but you can love more than one. Think of this: if you are a LDS, you may have more than one wife, but can't you make love to more than one of them?) Anyhow, the photography of the landscapes was really well done in the film, wasn't it? I had some good exercise swimming at the beach in St. t du Var today. The wathere was 25ºC (warm) and the air was 30º C (over 85º F). I almost didn't go, but I was happy after I went. Exercise activities really take discipline. I'm going to bed now and do my lying down exercises while watching a violent American film, called " Bandits. " I've never seen it, so I don't know if it is violent. It's American, so I assume it will be. Bruce Willis is in it. I didn't pay for it, so nothing is lost. I need to go to bed anyhow. Oh, yes. I saved six goldfish today. I was in a store where I saw them all tanked up, so I bought them to put them in my basin where they now have a larger outdoor world of their own. I'm a member of the " Save the Goldfish " committee. So far, there is only one member--me. Anyone want to join? It terrible the way some goldfish are treated. Merely see the film, " A fish called Wanda, " also with Kline. Wow! It's Kline day in hippieville. See you, Staninfr Save the goldfish http://www.beyond.fr/villages/tourrettesloup.html > > > > > > At the age of 53 I have had bilateral hip replacement just > 3 > > > > weeks > > > > > > ago, and I am feeling great. Guest guest
Sounds like me, ! I'm about a week ahead of you, I guess. (my surgery was 21 July). Some days I've walked about an hour, and it's been fine. Other days I can barely hobble..... As others have said, it seems to take about 3 months to fully return to "normal" - so we are half way there.... Good luck with your checkup next week. Guest guest
Stan, Oh, you're American! I thought you were French! Sorry. I misunderstood. Is your French good? I understand Americans can never get the accent quite right and that annoys the French very much. Do you limp when you walk? I'm trying to stop, but it's not easy. Yesterday I was walking around the house without my cane, but I'm not going out the door without it for awhile. I'm jealous you're driving through that adorable village! So you're an English teacher. Cool. My best subject in school was English. I don't condem you for wanting to live in France. I might have a problem if you wanted to live in a communist country.. I was really into India for awhile and I wanted to live there. Probably a past life thing. Never did though. I realized I like it here better. I'd like to visit my ancestral countries some day, Italy, England, Ireland and Scotland. I think my 12 year old son would like to join your goldfish club. He has a popeyed goldfish named Sid and a Beta named Sprinkles. He loves fish. He's a water sign. " Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.... Guest guest
Hi " adorable " Stan, I wouldn't have a problem with the people in a communist country, only the government. I abhor any government that forbids freedom and forbids any religion. I'm surprised that you brought that up. I would think you knew what I meant when I said that. I didn't think I'd have to explain. You know in China the people would go to PRISON for practicing chi gong? And many have. It's a method of self healing derived from ti chi. It's not even religious. By the way, isn't Cuba considered a " military dictatorship " (You know, CASTRO?) and is a communist sympathizer? I didn't think it was a communist country. from America in America in Jersey > > > > > > > > > At the age of 53 I have had bilateral hip > replacement > > > just > > > > 3 > > > > > > > weeks > > > > > > > > > ago, and I am feeling great. Guest guest
Au Contrare, I was a hippie of the 70's variety. Guest guest
Sorry Stan, I thought it was Larry who said that. Well, check my reply to him it's for you too then! I can't read these messages right the way they look. Wow, Man! I went to the Hari Krishna temple in Manhattan to visit a friend of ours who burned out on lsd and decided to become a priest. It was a nice experience. Good Food. I LOVE Indian food. Did I mention I saw Clapton in concert in Philly? Does that count? Blue Oyster Cult? Humble Pie?
