Guest guest
jackie, i also have fibromyalgia. and i've been tested numerous times for lyme's, lupus and MS as well. i was actually told that i had lupus and ms, at different times, then told later that i didn't. i had a positive test for lupus, never could figure that out -- if test is positive but i'm told i don't have it, what gives? and, i too didn't walk til i was about 2 -- i was knock kneed, pidgeon toed, i'd fall down all the time. i think perhaps my hip could be congenitial (is that the right word, lol). maybe. when i was a child, my muscles in my legs would get very weak. when i was 4, there was a scare of polio but i didn't have it -- however, i was very ill at the time. there was a time while i lived in charlotte and not so long ago, that i just kept falling down, i was so clumsy. you sound like me -- shopping after falling. i've pushed myself so much at times, when shopping or doing something that i just felt had to be done. i cannot do that any longer though; although, even going to the grocery store, i'm pushing myself, but that's a necessary thing -- i need to eat. :-) we seem to have a lot in common. hugs, lindy Oh, Donna, I am so sorry to hear about your arthritic episode - I hope you are feeling better now ... presurgery I also struggled with Fibromyalgia, so I do know something about the un-ending pain. I am assuming you know all about foods to avoid with arthritis that sometimes makes it worse? I know I had to avoid tomato based dishes, potatoes, nightshade plants, caffeine, chocolate (!), corn, popcorn ... we're some of the foods that made my arthritis flare up & fibro kick in. I manage with NSAIDs, therapeutic oils and herbs now.LOOOONG story short ... I really don't know what came first -- was it inherited, was it the tick bite, was it sports training (I was a martial artist) was it tap dancing ... Or all of it combined? I didn't walk in life until almost 2 years old and was rather clumsy until I took up martials arts at 38 years old. Oh, I was also a runner in my early 30s.I notcied the symptoms about 6 years ago when I was bit by a tick. I had a high fever and lost mobility & muscle strength. The MD said it couldn't be Lyme Disease in Michigan... I had umpteen tests for MS, Lupus, Lyme, etc. with negative results. About 5 years ago I even saw an orthopedic surgeon who said nothing was wrong with me - he didn't take xrays, just moved my legs around.Well around 3 years ago, I gained mobility again - went back to training, dancing - even went to Okinawa to study with the Masters & US Marines. Then 9 months later I was walking with my son in downtown Chicago, when suddenly I went down and just couldn't get up. I barely could walk, but being the masochist I am, I kept walking (limping) around Chicago for another 3 hours to go shopping!I feel that Grace granted me mobility so that I could go to Okinawa, which had been a life's dream. Drs. then said my muscles were damaged thru training ... had pills, did herbs/oils & massage therapty with scanar treatments, that kept me mobile -- though limited with a walking stick. Then this past August, I just couldn't walk anymore. I was so tired/worn out from the pain. I asked for some x-rays from the Chirpractor who was shocked to see that I had no cartilage left in my hips. The rest is history. My PT says in his 16 years ... I am the worst case he's ever seen. Even the orthopedic surgeon couldn't figure out how I was semi-upright.So that's my story. I don't know why x-rays didn't come up sooner. I don't know why the arthritis didn't show up in my blood either. The Dr's did say I was depressed, and that was my problem - sure wouldn't you be if you were in pain all the time?So now I am all the wiser for the experience. There is an old Greek proverb that says "It is necessary to endure these things in order to gain wisdom." Happy Holidays to you.. sorry if thi! s was too long.Jackie .. Guest guest
i went ahead and made an appt. for 2 weeks prior to my surgery for an hour massage, a facial, a pedicure and manicure. i figured 2 weeks before was the perfect time because i cannot shave my legs for 2 weeks prior and i sure wouldn't want anyone giving me a massage with stubble. LOL did any of the rest of you have to stop shaving your legs? hugs, lindy lou For Mother's Day, the kids treated me to a spa treatment. I had mineral mud slathered over me supposedly taken from deep down in some country I can't remember. Then I was wrapped in plastic and put in a machine and roasted for awhile. Then I had a massage. It gave me the most pain-free days of the year. If I ever win the lottery, I will have it done every week. Meanwhile, swimming in a heated pool at our local rehabilitation center helps tremendously. Guest guest
Hi Lindy Yes, you won't be able to shave your legs for a while: I am happy to report I had mine waxed at the start of this week (the post-op 3 week mark). I wish I'd had a pedicure though - my family aren't too keen to cut my (perfectly clean, ordinary looking) toenails -----Original Message-----From: Joint Replacement [mailto:Joint Replacement ]On Behalf Of lindySent: Saturday, 23 December 2006 2:28 p.m.Joint Replacement Subject: Re: Re: Merry Christmas -- Where in the world are you? Guest guest
huh. they told me not to shave for 2 weeks prior so i wouldn't cut myself because if i did, bacteria could get in, it get infected and then go to my hip after the replacement is in. Guest guest
I think it is always important to remember medicine is not always scientific, and is often up to the personal beliefs of the doctors. I also was told no shaving of legs two weeks before surgery. It wasn't important to me, so I went with the two week thing. Hubby waxed my legs at the two week mark. If it is really important to you - then take the risk, realising you have to wear the consequences. I had sex just over a week after my hip was revised. Hospital said 6 weeks, but hubby and I both needed the comfort. Aussie Margaret RTHR 1990 revised 2004 Re: Re: Merry Christmas -- Where in the world are you? Guest guest
Hi Jackie, It is interesting about foods to avoid arthritis flare ups. I wonder if there are foods that would help get rid of arthritis. Have you ever heard any thing like that? Thanks Dahhling Re: Re: Merry Christmas -- Where in the world are you?
