Guest guest
HI Alice Your email came at exactly the right time for me - after a painful night tossing and turning! I will try your suggestions out. in NZ -----Original Message-----From: Joint Replacement [mailto:Joint Replacement ]On Behalf Of pudgyaunt99@...Sent: Saturday, 9 December 2006 9:53 p.m.Joint Replacement Subject: pillow between legs i have always had some pain lying on my side -- the pain would start in the knee area and work up to the hip.... so now i have a special contour pillow that i put between my knees and it balances out the slope of the area between hip and knee and tends to put less strain on that area... i have found it to be a Godsend... of course probably a regular pillow or whatever would do the same but i found the contour pillows for $6.95 at harriet carter or in dr. leonards so i bought one there.... i love it and find it also helps with my knees rubbing which just irritates me... i had a TKR - right 9 weeks ago and in jan or early feb will be having the left one done... i have to admit on about days 7-10 i vowed i wouldn't have another one done, but within a few days after that i couldn't wait to get the other one done so that i may finally be able to get out and walk some and just start enjoying things they way i used to.... hang in everyone who is experiencing a lot of pain --- i know its real hard but it does pass and the days when it is feeling great you can do so many things that you forgot you could do!!!! Guest guest
Hi, I can honestly say that I don't really know what type of prothesis I have in any of the replaced joints...I just didn't care as long as the pain was gone and they worked. My hips are doing great and I have had no problems with them at all. The right side is 6 1/2 years old now and the left side will be 3 years old in February 2007. Doesn't seem possible that much time has elapsed. My knees on the other hand are giving me fits.....just have to wait and see what the next step will be there. Anyway, I know that the pillow is great and would not go anywhere without it. Take care now and have a great holiday if I don't chat with you again....Barbi
Guest guest
if my doctor doesn't order a wedge for between my legs for me, can i buy one. i would just feel safer with one. when i asked him about it, he said he doesn't do that anymore -- make the patient wear the wedge, even immedieatly after surgery, but to me, it seems a very good precautionary measure and i want one -- i wonder if i insisted if he'd order one for me anyway. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, something to add to my growing list of new questions for him. hugs,~ linDUHlou ~RTHR/1/22/2007 ArthurIt is supposed to do both. However the first night home from my LTHR, I felt so good and drugged that I rolled over to my right side and slipped right off the pillow and my knee was on the bed. So a body pillow is safer. Maybe a reason why they don't want to give you sleeping pills for a few weeks!Did not do any harm. Told my OS and he said to try not to do that again! Now with both hips done, I still feel better with a small pillow.Sue
Guest guest
When I was brought to my hospital room and was reasonably conscious, I discovered a wedge strapped between my legs. I still use it (without the straps), and my surgery was a month ago. I suppose I'm reluctant to sleep without it. I bet your doctor would order one for you if you asked. My insurance even paid for mine. Did your doctor say why he doesn't make patients wear the wedge anymore? --Arthur --- lindy <everyothername.istaken@...> wrote: > if my doctor doesn't order a wedge for between my > legs for me, can i buy one. i would just feel safer > with one. when i asked him about it, he said he > doesn't do that anymore -- make the patient wear the > wedge, even immedieatly after surgery, but to me, it > seems a very good precautionary measure and i want > one -- i wonder if i insisted if he'd order one for > me anyway. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, something to add to my > growing list of new questions for him. > hugs, > ~ linDUHlou ~ > RTHR/1/22/2007 > > > Arthur > > It is supposed to do both. Guest guest
Really having that wedge strapped to you is no fun. I did not sleep in the hospital. For the last 2 surgeries I talked them out of the wedge and promised I would be good. A body pillow works great. Guest guest
in catalogs like harriet carter or dr. leonards you can find what they call contour leg pillows -- they are only $6.95 and they fit between your knees.... i have found them to be a help even before my surgery. i tended to have hip to knee pain and with that pillow that pain is so much less -- and it helps to not have your knees rubbing together which has always bothered me .... take care all, alice

Guest guest
Thanks for this information Alice. I have always slept on my right side and since my right hip replacement, it has been difficult. I sleep with my left leg on top of my right leg and I am so sore when I wake in the morning. Sometimes it even wakes me at night, which it never did, not even before my replacement. It seems as if it happens because one knee rubs on the other. My knee is so painful when I get up in the morning. I am going to order one of these pillows. Guest guest
i have found that the contour small pillow works great for me -- i am two months past tkr and it makes it so my hips are more in line with my knees giving me less pain and also keeps my knees for rubbing together which absolutely drives me nuts.... so i just love mine and if you have trouble finding them at a local store you can always order them from dr. leonards or harriet carter.... ====================================================================See, I am sending an angel before you, to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.
