Update on my scar infection after bilateral TKRs

A couple of people wanted to know how I am getting along with the

little infection, so here's an update:

I saw my ortho on wednesday and he thoroughly

cleaned out the area, used hydrogen peroxide and silver nitrate - and

thought it did not look too serious. Yesterday I didn't think it

looked much better, but this morning - there is much less oozing, it

looks smaller and as if it's beginning to heal in - I use peroxide

when I change the dressing, which I do a couple of times a day. So I

am feeling better - will not feel completely at ease until it has gone

away totally...

But in every other way I seem to be doing amazingly well, according to

the ortho and my PT - I don't have the exact figures, but I am sure I

am bending both knees 110 or more, and straightening almost

completely. I am getting around in the house on one crutch and

walking more and farther each day. So this is very pleasing, and it's

making me forget the first two or three weeks when I was in so much

pain and so discouraged. My ortho, by the way, says that when someone

comes in and has one knee done, thinking they will do the other right

away - they don't come back, and don't come back - until about 6

months, when they seem to have forgotten how much pain they had with

the first one - invariably, he says, they then come in and tell him

the second one is MUCH more painful than the first was - just because

they have forgotten what it was really like - So... this makes me glad

I did opt to have both done at once - I'm not sure it could possibly

have been " twice as bad " and now - it's done.
