Guest guest
Hi It sounds like you are about 5 weeks post op so the worst is behind you. At the age of 54, I had my left hip replaced in 1/01 and the right one in 7/01. AFter the first hip replacement I went into a very deep depression for about 2 months. Needless to say, I did everything possible to prevent the depression after the second surgery and I did. However, things were alot less scary for me after the second surgery because I knew what to expect. If you have had trouble for the last 5 years, you will be pleasantly surprised in just a short time how much your life will improve. You will find you can do things that you haven't been able to do for a long time. As for the depression, I found it helped to stay as active as I could be.....especially getting out of the house. I also found it helped to talk to people who were understanding and would have loved to have found this group back then. Please feel free to ask any specific questions. I've been crippled up and in pain for the last 5 yrs so this was a real blessing. I can hardly wait to be able to walk again and to be pain free! I have a question please..... I've really been battling depression. Has anyone else been hit with depression during the recovery phase? At first my husband and daughter were kind and helpful but now I'm just a pain in the neck to them . My husband complains every time I ask him to go to the store. It was my daughter's 13th birthday yesterday so I had to have him do the shopping for her gifts (I've always done that before), and he took her and a friend to Wild Waves and out to dinner and on Sun he is taking her and a friend to the Space Needle for dinner. So I'm missing out on everything. But I know it is worth it in the long run. It's just that he complains all the time , and he never thinks about how it makes me feel or how I might be feeling (emotionally). He has always been a complainer but I guess I was hoping that during these few weeks it would be different. I'm sorry for going on so.....he really is nice in alot of other ways....I'm just so depressed that when he complains it makes me more depressed and feeling like a burden....one night I almost called the suicide hot line. I'm sorry....I'll stop now. I would greatly appreciate any tips or advice or anything any one could share with me ) gratefully, scottyzpt@... wrote: In a message dated 7/22/2004 11:22:34 PM Central Standard Time, Arianne377@... writes: i am out there every day with my kneeler, kneeling pad and knee pads. Guest guest
Why are you not going out with them? You are 5 weeks post op, you should be able to go to dinner and enjoy all of their company, and they enjoy yours!! Yes, post-op depression is very common. Ask your primary care doc for some assistance, as sometimes a little pill for a short time will really help get you over the hump, and back on your way to recovery. Certainly contemplating suicide indicates a past due visit to your primary care doc. Call Him TODAY!! It may also be depressing to think that your daughter is now a teenager. Ack! (just kidding, remembering when my two became teens....praise God they are now in their 20's). Marilyn katie Abbott wrote: Hi, My name is . I had a total hip replacement of my left hip on June 24. Guest guest
You wrote: one night I almost called the suicide hot line. My advice to you is that if you ever feel " almost " the need to call suicide prevention, " CALL THEM! There is nothing to be ashamed about calling them, I hopeyou know. The society is there for a reason, and I'm pleased to admit that they helped me over a rough bump in life some years ago. We all get depressed from time to time. It goes with the job of life. Cheers.
